BEEN SOLD A FAKE WATCH
I bought a $3000 watch 5-6 months ago off EBAY from a seller who had 100% rating on similar products. It came with plenty of documentation but no receipt so seemed very genuine. I only just took it in to be serviced and have been told it's a fake. EBay have told me that as it's after 30 days there is nothing they can do. REALLY?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

·2 years agoYou're not going to get any joy out of ebay, whether the purchase was June 22 or 23. Yes, 30 days is it.
Paypal might help if you paid that way (and it was 2023).
Ebay won't ban the seller either, if that's what you're hoping. Nor investigate. Not on the basis of one item.
They'll only do something if they legally have to.
Basically, K1000-slr-sales summed it up. Ebay isn't the place for some types of purchases.

·2 years agoThat's good news. It means you may be able to make a paypal claim if you paid that way.
If you didn't, I am not sure what you can do unless the seller is a legit business seller based in Australia. Most legal avenues are really expensive.

·2 years agoI'm just posting here in case someone comes to this thread in contemplation of buying an expensive watch, or any other jewellery item, or mobile phone.
DO NOT BUY EXPENSIVE JEWELLERY, ELECTRICAL ITEMS, OR MOBILE PHONES ON eBay.
Go to a physical store that is an authorised seller of the expensive item e.g. don't buy phones from tobacconists, they probably aren't authorised.
Get a warranty certificate, get a receipt.
It might cost a little more than buying on eBay, but you will have recourse both legally and via warranty for defective goods if you buy from a physical store.

OP2 years agoI left positive feedback when i bought it as i was "HAPPY" with it at that point (June 22). I only found out today that it is fake

·2 years agoI hope you paid by PayPal.....you have 180 days (to the day) to submit a claim via them......otherwise a charge back through your bank via c/c.....do you have documentation from jeweller????

·2 years agoThe seller’s registration details would not say “Melbourne Australia”; that sounds more like the item location information. (Incidentally, a seller can put more or less what they like for item location.)
For country of registration, you need to click onto the seller’s feedback percentage. They should take you to their feedback profile page. That’s where the country of registration is shown.

·2 years agoIf you paid with Paypal they give 180 days from the time of purchase for a dispute. If you paid with a credit card you are more than likely out of time for a chargeback.
