I have a seller that a buy quite a few items from in the UK. Recently I noticed that someone has placed a 'Best Offer' as a bid. How does this work. There is a best offer available when the auction starts but it disappears after the first bid. Does it just disappear for me? How can someone else place a best offer after a bid has already been made and the best offer is no longer visible? Also, if the best offer has been accepted, as it's showing as a bid, why doesn't the auction end? The person making the best offer has lost to me on several recent auctions so I'm wondering if they are trying to get the lot to end early.

·11 months agoare you sure they're making a 'best offer' (which is bizarre) and not another bid?

❝When you add the Best Offer option to your eBay listings, you're inviting buyers to negotiate with you. After a buyer makes an offer, you can choose to accept, decline, or make a counteroffer.❞
It’s not automatically accepted.
❝Offers won't be available if your listing is an auction with a Buy It Now price.❞
A Buy It Now price is not a negotiation. It is automatically accepted.

It doesn't explain it at all. I placed the first bid on the 20th August for £100 (which should remove all existing offers automatically?). When I checked today (29th) I saw in the bid history a "Best Offer £102" placed on the 25 August. How could an offer have even been made once I had placed that initial bid? And why did it appear in the bid history 4 days later if it hadn't been accepted or declined? If it was accepted, shouldn't the auction have ended?
Anyway, it is a mute point now as the "Best Offer" is now showing as a bid. It caught my eye as I have never seen "Best Offer" in a live bid history. I should have screen shot the page. Ta
