Counterfeit box set DVD's

Hello everyone,
I'm just writing to ask advice. I purchased a boxset of DVDs. The Aus seller has excellent ratings. The DVDs arrived fast and sealed and appeared in brand new as described condition. I left positive feedback as was packed very well. The box looks legit. Some of the dvds episodes won't play on either of my multi region players. I looked at the back of those and they look not right. They are a weird colour. The print on the front looks legit. I'm unsure what to do. I ended up buying a new DVD player thinking maybe it's old. That was before I tried my second dvd player🤦 if a brand new sealed dvd has scratches does that mean it's a counterfeit? One dvd has a line right through it and won't play. So far 2 discs aren't playing. Any advice is appreciated. Thankyou

It is worth noting that of their 5492 positives in the past year, 1235 are eBay automated (no input at all from the buyers) plus 123 revised feedbacks, when the buyers were asked to change negs/neutrals to positives by the seller
So their 99.9% positive rating is not reflective of real positive feedback

OP3 weeks agoThankyou for commenting. I have notified the seller that so far two DVD's aren't playing and they have lines through them and appear counterfeit. To keep things polite I said that their supplier possibly sold counterfeit box set. I've noticed the seller appears to be quite aggressive when buyers complain about the low quality of DVD's. I haven't heard back yet but will open a case if they don't respond. I've never bought a brand new sealed boxset that's counterfeit before. Mind boggling how realistic they appear.

OP3 weeks agoJust updating, I opened a return case with ebay. Took me a while to find the item not as described reason. Ebay has changed the returns display. It's very confusing to navigate, I haven't needed to return something for years. I heard back from the seller who was apologetic.

·Aug 9, 2026 at 8:27 PMHave you contacted the Seller and told them about the problems? It may not get you anywhere, but may be worth a try to see what they say. Also, maybe check with eBay, just type in "need to talk to an agent" if you get the robot. That usually gets you a human. If all else fails, learn by your mistake and check that all disks play before leaving feedback in future. I always just pop them all in and skip through quickly to make sure before leaving feedback. Sorry I cannot suggest anything else.

OPAug 9, 2026 at 11:36 AMI forgot to mention that I usually buy my DVDs from a particular seller but he didn't have this boxset, so I've had no prior experience with this seller. I note that there's a handful of negative feedbacks mentioning counterfeit DVDs. Seller has almost 100% positive feedback.
