Did I get Scammed by Dodgy Seller?

    1. I bought a baby bed rail costing $80 from this seller on August 2, 2024. Upon receiving the product, I realized that the product was defective (one of the clips was broken, rendering the product unusable).

    2. I raised a return request on eBay on Aug 3. Soon the seller contacted me and started pushing me to accept a refund of 20% of the value, and keep the product. This was later increased to 25%. I denied the request and shipped the product via Aus Post on 9 Aug. Seller accepts returns till Sep 1.

    3. Fast forward to today (Aug 19), the status on Aus Post says "processed at facility". I contacted Aus Post regarding the delay and was told that they can't do much as this is a business address provided by the seller, and was told to contact the seller for any query.

    4. Today, I contacted the seller on why has there been a delay and what can they do to process the fill refund. They told me that unless the goods are delivered, they can't process the refund as per eBay policy.

    5. I feel like I am stuck and got scammed. I don't know when the product will be delivered to the seller and even if it does, will I ever get my money back. I read a few posts on this community where people have posted about similar experiences that turned out to be scams. What can I do to get my money back? Thank you all for your help!

Received a call from eBay customer service this afternoon. They suggested waiting until 23 Aug for the product to be delivered. If it's not, they said they will step in to make it right for me. That's really wonderful of them to give me a ring and offer a solution.

That's great news  -  Please let us know the outcome.

And just a general comment about Australia Post which isn't relevant to the OP as they're not waiting to receive an item.

Under different circumstances  as a recipient ,  and over a few years,  I've lodged a missing  item form  with Australia Post about 5 times.

I've probably been lucky but  every single parcel has been located and I've received it.

"Australia Post tracking still says the item is in transit"

"I contacted Aus Post regarding the delay and was told that they can't do much"

    That's rubbish.

As you're in the same state, I suggest you give it another couple of days and if it's not shown as delivered, lodge a missing item form.

Go to  "To make an enquiry, please complete our missing item form "

Usually it's the seller that has to put the "missing item" request into AP Casey.

If you read the information in the Australia Post link, you'll see that it's actually aimed at the buyer in the

" Things to Check", before filing a form

Sorry Padi , ignore what I said before, I worked late.

I do think OP can file the claim though , but I suggest the OP phone Australia Post first  for advice as it's a Chinese Seller she's dealing with.

Did you open a case with eBay, or did you simply return at your own expense?

If you opened a case, eBay would have required the seller to pay for return shipping.

Read up on how the Money Back Guarantee works.

The seller is correct in that they have no control over AP deliveries.

The return shipping was paid for by the seller. I was able to generate the return label via eBay that had the Chullora address.

I briefly read your opening post before some of the details were removed .

    How did you pay ?

Did you actually go through the eBay MBG  and upload tracking details ?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy?id=4210

"Soon the seller contacted me and started pushing me to accept a refund of 20% of the value, and keep the product. This was later increased to 25%"

Yes that's perfectly normal for a shonky seller in China.

I think I read that you posted  it back to the  U L  Warehouse, Chullora  ?

which is a drop shipping warehouse that Chinese sellers use.

    How did you pay?

    Through a credit card.

Did you actually go through the eBay MBG  and upload tracking details ?

Yes, eBay MBG says this about when the refund will be processed.

    Latest:

3 business days after receiving the returned item

However, 10 days after shipping the product back, Australia Post tracking still says the item is in transit, which I feel is quite long.

I think I read that you posted  it back to the  U L  Warehouse, Chullora  ?

Yes, that was the address on the return label generated by eBay.

    That's 8 working days.

It's probably stuck in the Chullora mail sorting centre which is notoriously bad.

Which  state are you in ?

Chullora is infamous for being a black hole, so *that* part really does not mean a thing

(other than commonplace, along with Sunshine West) for being useless
