E-Bay forcing customers to review products before feedback can be left!
E-Bay has recently introduced a 'rate this item' five star scale in feedback. If you don't 'rate' the item, the Leave Feedback button is disabled. More often than not it's impossible to rate a product unless you have had or used it for some time. This function first appeared on items from commercial sellers, now it's all sellers. This is a dishonest way to get reviews and until E-Bay remove it or make it optional I will no longer provide feedback on items.

·2 years agoI agree with the post. It's not stomping feet, it's making a stand. What I think the poster and others have a gripe with is that we have no choice in the matter. Either rate the item or you can't leave feedback. Ebay pesters us to leave feedback all the time, so if they really want feedback then make this 'Rate Item' an option. No one is asking Ebay to remove it, just don't force it on us. Someone said we are punishing the seller, but Ebay is the one stopping feedback by greying out the button, so they are punishing the seller.
MAKE THE RATE ITEM OPTIONAL .

·2 years agoFeedback in itself is optional
No use yelling about it to other members
And it is punishing the seller
And eBay do not take requests

·2 years agoI haven't bought anything since May but can't recall having to rate the products then Maybe it is something new introduced over the last month.
I actually do feel that no customer should be forced to rate the item. Sometimes you can, other times it is just too early. Even 2 months can be too early for some items. I can think of 2 instances where I wrote bad reviews (not on ebay) about very expensive electrical items that packed it in after 4 or 5 months.
If I had been forced to review after one or two months, I probably would have given 5 stars, but as it turned out, one product (a fridge) had a serious fault that affected a lot of other people with that model, so my later review was more useful.
I also occasionally get asked to do an ambassador review for some products and those reviews have to be in within the month, which I find slightly annoying (though i can understand why, it's a marketing thing) and I often add to the review that I have only been using it for a month so can't say what it will be like long term.

OP2 years agoI agree completely. E-Bay used to ask for reviews via E-Mail, and I left reviews when I honestly felt I could do so. Seller feedback and product reviews are two entirely different things. If a seller does a great job - fast postage, item is well packed so it arrives undamaged, etc, that's not down to me making a good choice (or otherwise) in selecting a particular product. This is especially the case if buying products that can only be rated after owning them for a length of time, like the fridge you mentioned. Tying seller feedback and product ratings together to effectively 'force' someone to write a review feels like E-Bay weren't happy to ask for reviews the way everyone else does - it simply smacks of leveraging product reviews to advance their platform rather than giving a sh*t about the actual product quality.

·2 years agoI've just left feedback for 2 sellers in the last 2 weeks - with no problem.
The box was there asking me to 'rate the item' and I just clicked on the X at the top right corner of the box - it went away, and I left feedback.
So idk ??
mgirlm52009
OP2 years agoThere's no option to click and make it go away in my case, and if it isn't completed the 'leave feedback' button stays greyed out.

·2 years agoSame with mine - no little x to click on to get rid of it.
Either fill in the lot - or don't bother.
Feedback is for the seller - not the product.

·2 years agoThere is plenty of room in writing comments to make a comment about the stupidity of being asked to, eg, rate an item you've bought as a present for someone else and haven't used. Quite easy to explain the reason for the item rating and make it separate from feedback on seller.
Now I have found a further ebay suggestion that is annoying. I just left feedback and ebay then suggested:
Why?
sugar249
·2 years agoI thought the why? was obvious they want people to sell on the platform so buyers have product to buy. plus it will help put money in your pocket to help make your next purchase. Simple really.

·2 years agoI think 60 days is more than enough time to ask the gift recipient about the quality of the item so that you can leave feedback.
As it is for than an item that you have received.

·2 years agoSo you are going to punish sellers for not liking what eBay does?
It is not that recent, it has been posted about numerous times before
And eBay are unlikely to change it back (a, they hardly read here) b) they don't change things because someone stomps their foot
mgirlm52009
OP2 years agoPeople 'stomping their feet' is how things change, last time I checked anyway. If you do nothing, nothing changes.
