eBay cancelled a private transaction between buyer and seller

Summary: A participant initiated a discussion regarding eBay's cancellation of a private transaction between a buyer and seller. gutterpunkz05, k1ooo-slr-sales, sandypebbles, and springyzone each briefly contributed to the conversation without extensive elaboration. *casey* engaged further by interacting multiple times within the thread, including a follow-up response to their own post. hairylegs1 re-engaged with the discussion, prompting additional responses from *casey*, domino-710, and others, though the details of their contributions are minimal or repetitive. Despite several entries, the discussion lacks substantive content or detailed insights about the transaction issue or eBay's role in it.

Hello, first time here. I just made a purchase with a buyer in US.  I contacted them for  tracking information to find out eBay cancelled the transaction. No reason given taking over 300$ in money and not a word  from eBay. Private transaction nothing to do with them. Got a receipt saying he transaction went through but eBay took it going by the sellers reply. Not a happy camper.  Happy to drag ebays sorry **bleep** into court for this.

If eBay cancelled the transaction, then eBay would have refunded you.

As others have said, your post doesn't make much sense. Please be clearer and nice people will try to help you.

Hi , it was a transaction conducted through eBay but still consider it a transaction between myself and the seller. Ebays only  interest is taking the 15% from the seller.

For some reason it was monitored and cancelled by eBay. There was NO communication from eBay to myself or the seller.  I contacted the seller for postage tracking and they informed me eBay cancelled transaction, no explanation. Have already approached a law firm and they advised eBay have breached the Australia  Consumer Laws.

You still haven't mentioned if you paid through the eBay official checkout and it seems to me that you're

    listening to a  SCAMMER seller.

What is the item number ?

Had you approached ' a law firm ' they would have asked for at least a tad more info.

Especially your idea of buying on eBay but calling it a private sale.

You cannot have it both ways

It was either through ebay or a private transaction between the seller and yourself

And IF it was through eBay, you would be covered by the MBG and using the tools you are given to get your money back

Which a law firm would have advised you of

Yes, it is a transaction between you & the seller. Ebay does not sell or hold the goods as such, that is true.

However, it was sold on the ebay platform. Therefore, the transaction has to follow ebay guidelines.

Ebay would not just cancel a transaction and not tell you, the buyer. You would have received a private message, automatically generated, but all the same, you would have been told about it. They would certainly tell the seller about it too.

I am getting the strong impression that you are going on what the seller has told you and taking it as gospel.

Ebay has lots of faults, but they don't go around cancelling sales without telling seller or buyer and then just pocketing the money. Yes, they charge a commission on sales, but what sales site doesn't?

How would the seller know ebay cancelled a sale if ebay didn't tell them? Or are you saying ebay did tell them, just didn't give a reason? You need to be more explicit.

Have you looked at your actual my ebay section to see what that says about purchases?

If it listed in there, then it is current, not cancelled.

If it is cancelled, then you need a refund.

I think the seller is trying to scam you. You can open claim for item not received after the due delivery date passes and you can also contact ebay help till you get to chat to a real person if need be.

Did you tell them it was an international purchase?    Did you tell them what the item was   (razor blades, knife etc)  Possibly an illegal import?

You have had a couple of requests for the item number,  but then again  I suppose your idea of a private sale could relate to a personal adult item.

As others have mentioned, your post is very confusing.

If  it was  a private transaction between you and the seller and your payment  wasn't made through the eBay official checkout    (not a fake checkout page)

it sounds like the seller's a scammer and you've lost your money.

If your payment was completed through  the eBay official  checkout  ( not a fake checkout)

but eBay's cancelled the transaction  and removed the listing, you're covered by  eBay's Money Back Guarantee.

If the item's been removed from the site, you'll  probably need eBay to manually  open an

"item not received"  dispute for you.

Click on Contact Us at the bottom of the page in the following link and on the right hand side, you'll see the automated assistant. Ask to speak to an agent or supervisor

To add, if you paid through eBay checkout and on the  off chance that  you've since received notification from eBay that the transaction's been cancelled , the refund will go to your original funding source and may take several business days to show.

Your post here to us is confusing.

How exactly did you find out the transaction was cancelled?

Did the seller tell you this or did you get a notice from ebay?

It sounds strange that you had to contact the seller for tracking details but only then found out the transaction was supposedly cancelled but 'ebay took it', which I am assuming you mean ebay took the $300?

In either case-whether ebay cancellled a sale or if a seller cancelled a sale-you would be entitled to your $300 back immediately.

Ebay would be entitled to cancel a sale for various reasons. For example, if they thought there was a problem with a seller or if the item was a banned product. But I am pretty sure you would have an ebay notification about a cancellation.

Is it by chance a new seller? If so, then ebay does hold the money for 30 days before a new seller can claim it, but that does not cancel the sale.

If you are telling us that you heard ebay cancelled the sale and took the money, something is wrong.

Go into the my ebay section, open the tab about your purchases, check what it says. If the sale still looks current, then open an ebay claim for item not received as soon as the due delivery date has passed.

Let us know how  you get on or maybe come back with some more details as it is hard to know how to help if we don't know exactly what happened.

What are you dragging eBay to court for exactly?

You say it was a 'private' transaction and 'nothing to do with eBay', indicating both you and the seller knowing broke the policy about buying eBay listing outside eBay'

No need to tell other members, go on and take eBay to court

    hairylegs,

When you say "Private transaction nothing to do with them", do you mean a transaction you organised away from eBay?  Or,  a transaction completed on eBay after you messaged and organised an agreed price with the seller?

    Context here is important.

Please do come back and update us with your court or legal actions.

Not sure what you mean by private transaction, nothing to do with ebay, did you and the seller arrange to complete the transaction outside of ebay.   If so ebay can not cancel your arrangement, but they can still charge the seller fees.
