eBay closed case in my favour, no return label provided — return item or not?
Summary: gok-5052 opened a discussion about an eBay case that was closed in their favor, yet they didn’t receive a return label, leaving them uncertain whether to return the item. davewil1964, sandypebbles, and others joined the conversation, but the posts contained no concrete content or responses to indicate how to proceed; participants did not share specific advice, and no definitive conclusion was reached on the matter.
Hi,
I bought an item that turned out to be counterfeit. The seller wasn’t accepting a return/refund until eBay stepped in, and eBay has now closed the case in my favour with a full refund (pending). There was no mention of returning the item, and no official return label has been provided through eBay.
The seller is now asking me to send the item back privately. I don’t really care to keep it, but I also don’t want to do anything that could come back to bite me later.
In this situation, should I return it, or only follow eBay’s official process?
Thanks!

·5 months agoIf the seller did not issue you with a return label, then bad luck for him. Take the refund and do whatever you like with the item, including throwing it out if need be. You have no responsibility to return it to the seller and I definitely wouldn't.
If he really wanted it back, he could have worked out postage details during the dispute. He's trying to con you now.
Why would you put yourself out of pocket?
Once you have the refund you can just ignore the seller's messages because there is no way this seller will refund postage if you post it back.

NO
Australia Post prohibits the posting of illegal, counterfeit items
Was it from one of the shonky Chinese sellers, selling items which are very dangerous and don't pass Australian mandatory safety standards ?

OP5 months agoSurprisingly it just looks like a local seller. They do have another pair of fake shoes listed, but whenever I report this suff nothing gets done about it.

·5 months agoThen they had every opportunity to provide a return label during the dispute.
The fact they didn't and are now trying to work it out 'privately' speaks volumes.
Nothing can come back to bite you. You can have peace of mind about that. By the seller ignoring the dispute, ebay has decided in your favour with a refund and because there was no postage label provided, ebay has decided you can keep the item. If it is not a regular seller, they may not have anticipated that. In that case, it is a learning experience for them.
But as far as ebay is concerned, the dispute is finished, over.

·5 months agoFollow the process.
After you are refunded you can negotiate with the seller to provide postage cost upfront to have the item returned.

·5 months agoStaggering how many people ask
'Should I follow the proper policy set out by eBay or do what the seller said'
Not surprised the seller wants the item 'returned privately'
So they can deny they got it back and sell it again to someone else, and being done outside eBay it's win/win for the seller

OP5 months agoThat's true. I didn't want to keep it but when I said they can send a prepaid return label they just didn't respond so I guess they gave up.
