eBay International Shipping price more at checkout

Purchased an old eggbeater drill from the US. Listed shipping via eIS $40.98USD. Get to checkout shipping is now $61.42USD. Paid the shipping as I didn't want to lose the order. eBay states that the listed price is an estimate, but nowhere in the listing or associated postage'see details'page does it state it's an estimate. Is this true? Have been given conflicting information by eBay and eIS.

As eIS has replaced the GSP in the USA, are they now, as the carrier, responsible for collecting GST along with a fee for doing so, or has that reverted from the GSP to ebay. I am presuming it is still the responsibility of the carrier.

Thanks gutterpunkz05, I just cannot understand how eBay lists a shipping price, mentions nothing about it being an estimate, then ups the price and says the listing was an estimate. In the 3 messages I have had with eIS I have been civil, rude would get me nowhere. For eIS to simply shut down communication makes it impossible to resolve this matter. Is there any way of pursuing this? It is almost more than I can comprehend. Almost, as eBay is a faceless corporation nothing surprises me anymore. It seems as though eIS has said " It's an estimate. That's it! Now go away we are not talking anymore about it." Are there any suggestions what I can do?

You must pay for EIS Items and applicable International Shipping Fees. International Shipping Fees. The pricing that is displayed to you at checkout is inclusive of the Service (“International Shipping Fees”). International Shipping Fees may include shipping costs and costs associated with providing the Services. Taxes. It can only be an estimate, due to exchange rate, although that is a big variation.

But you did know how much it was before you hit commit to buy.

Thanks sugar249, the figure was $40.98USD which did not alter. The conversion to AUD did alter of course. Yes, I did know how much the postage had become at the checkout, but did not want to see the order cancelled after 3 days while for non-payment. Bad for the seller (who has done no wrong) and bad for me. eBay states it was a system error, eBay International Shipping claims it was an estimate and has now ceased all communication as they have provided me with all the information they have. That's all folks.
