eBay blanket ban of knife sales to Queensland is bull!
We live a long distance from town and rely heavily on Australia Post for delivery of our goods. Does eBay expect all people in rural areas to drive 100's of kilometres every time a bladed tool breaks?
my last gasket scraper blade broke. Pack the ute, we've got a 150km round trip to buy a new one.

·10 months agoYour right, I need a pocket knife. Under laws, adults scrutinized. Kids shouldn't be on there. No age can be proved so I questioned them , they are worried about knives but I pointed out to them the giant realm of sex toys they have, are kids buying these on who's checking. Knives...no, dildos ...yes. did government forget to check the rest of the 18 plus things they sell? Yes, yes they did. Another cherry picked laws we need to fight for. I will fight for the right to cut bailing twine!

What happened to you plan to 'drive over the boarder' to buy pointy things, per the last time you complained about the rules, or the time before that

Anyway, I think I would rather be attacked with a 2ft dong, rather than a machette etc

·1 year agoeBay have no service obligations in Australia. You might just as easily blame the coffee distributors in Brisbane . . . they too will not sell you gasket scraper bladed instruments.
You would be better placed trying to source your gasket scraper blade from an auto parts store that has an online platform. Either that, or, getting someone you know in the city to buy one in-store for you and post it to you.
If nobody in Qld sells gasket scraper blades online anymore, then your anger at eBay is misplaced. Contact the new LNP Government, they promised to fix just about everything that is wrong in Qld.

eBay could easily add age verification. There are many ways to do this, Australia Post ID, MyGov, QLD digital licence etc.
Once age is verified, the vendor has complied with legalisation and goods can be purchased.

·1 year agothese days, people are hesitant to provide the ID you propose due to high profile data breaches such as Optus and Medibank.
Many people had to get their Driver Licences reissued after data breaches.
When Managed Payments came in for sellers, there were all manner of complaints about having to provide copies of photo IDs and Bank Account information.
The other thing about eBay, is that adults let their kids use their account. Age verification wouldn't work.

·1 year agoEven if it was possible for ebay to implement a failsafe age verification system, that does not negate the need for every single seller to also verify a buyers age and keep appropriate records.
Ebay, like many retailers, have placed a blanket ban on the sale of knives for delivery in Qld, which is inline with advice from the national retailers association, which was engaged to assist retailers etc, to prepare for the introduction of this stupid law.
Note many Qld retailers with online presence, will no longer ship items within Qld, and instead require that the items are collected in person, at nearest outlet.
Here is a tip, some listings for such items will still be available for delivery to Qld, depending on the wording of listings and listing categories etc. I was readily able to buy a gasket scraper on ebay, eventually not getting the red banner.

And if they did read here, your abusive reaction certainly would not change a thing
Any reason why you *must* buy these things off eBay sellers?
Or why you would even try in the first place knowing of the ban
eBay is not the only option for online shopping
Or when not add to the pages long thread already here from people losing it over the same thing?
Take it up with your local members/law makers etc etc

We were using eBay as most of the vendors use Australia Post. Fair enough, we'll purchase our goods elsewhere!
As far as abuse goes, you drive 150kms every time you need a bladed tool and see how YOU feel.
I accept to need for knife reform, but not the dim witted implementation of legislation by retailer's.

·1 year agostill no reason to blame eBay for following the law of the land, or retailers for abiding by legislation.
As for driving 150km each time you need a bladed tool, how about buying the gasket scraper blades in bulk next time you drive the 150kms? That would bring down the costs a bit. While you are there, you should buy all manner of knives and blades you might need. That's how you get around online retailers/platforms not having age verification in place.

·1 year agoI do agree with you that some of the knee-jerk reactions to selling knives is over the top. Woolworths no longer sell knives of any sort. So if you happen to need a vegetable knife, Coles sell them. I guess forks and spoons will be banned next. One can only wonder where it all ends. When you think of all the things you could injure or kill someone with, we may as well just ban everything.
