GST rort!!!
Have been very annoyed for quite a while now that the GST component is calculated with the postage cost included. What a rort for eBay. GST should only be applied to the ITEM not the exorbitant shipping costs or associated charges.

OP1 year agoAh, OK, thanks for that link. I wasn't aware that was the case. Sorry eBay, unsurprisingly it's another another money grabbing exercise by the ATO as it turns out. $#$%^&* Tax Office.

OP1 year agoSo you're telling me that if a seller in the US posts/ships an item to me in Aus. and that postage/shipping is paid in the US that the Australian Tax Office receives the 10% on that transaction from the UPS or Fedex etc.
It's just a money grabbing scheme from eBay, they forward the actual GST on the ITEM to the ATO and pocket the rest.

·1 year agoNo, it's just eBay complying with the Australian Government's tax policies - just like any other business in Australia.

OP1 year agoThat could possibly be an argument if the item is being posted in Australia. When you are buying from overseas it is NOT an Australian 'service'.
