    I received a fake ps4 controller

Summary: The discussion begins with moofactory expressing concern over receiving a fake PS4 controller. lezned-toycollector and twyngwyn respond, potentially offering insights or similar experiences with fake controllers. padi*0409 and domino-710 also join the conversation, possibly adding their own experiences or advice to moofactory on how to handle the situation.

So im aware that there are 3rd party controllers out there, but this was in what appears to be a genuine sony box.

    Listing for the product:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/146674117971

it wasnt untill it came in the post and the packaging was crushed that my brain started ticking over that I should look this up as things on the packaging just didnt look right.

Turns out, from what I see in this youtube video, I was right.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An2u0q0G6DM

So now the question is, what do I categorize this as when requesting a return/refund.
Theres no option to say "item counterfit"

The only ones that seem to make sense but still dont quite fit are:
    Item Damaged
    Item Defective
    Item didnt match description
    Received wrong item

So, how would you handle this return request in my situation?

Whatever you do, don't mention the word counterfeit. You might think it is and it probably is, but ebay has no way to judge and you might lose unless you have documentary proof to back up your claim.

What you claim for is up to you. I'd probably go for item does not match description or you could go for item damaged.

Don't ever go ' counterfeit ' or ' fake ' - just do item not as described.

Out of 122 ratings as a seller, they have 10 which clearly mention fake and/or counterfeit products... and that's not counting any that may be hidden amongst their positive feedback.

With such an obvious warning, why did you go ahead with your purchase?

Nowhere in that listing does it state the product is "Sony". In fact, nowhere in the listing does it mention the brand at all.

You purchased a controller for a PS4. If it is compatible with your PS4, and it works, then you have no grounds for a return.
