Is there anyway to tell if a seller received a message?
Summary: The discussion revolves around how to determine if a seller has received a message. Several participants, including ambercat16, domino-710, and others, engage in sharing their experiences or thoughts on the topic. Despite multiple contributions, a definitive solution or method isn't clearly stated, leaving the question somewhat open-ended.
I have an item in my watch list that I am very interested in bidding on but need to know a few things first (measurements - it's an item of clothing).
I contacted the seller and asked my question four days before the listing ended but received no response. A few hours before the end time I again requested the details but again no response (both questions were phrased in a pleasant, friendly manner). There were no bids on the item and the seller relisted.
I again sent the seller a question asking for info but as yet, no response. I don't want to be a nag - if the seller doesn't want to respond then I won't buy - but is there any way to find out if they have actually received the message? It was sent through "contact seller" within the listing.

·2 years agoambercat, sadly there isn’t any way to know whether or not the seller has received (and read) the message – short of donning a black catsuit, being lowered down into the seller’s house through a skylight, and checking on the computer with seller still hopefully logged in… Backup plan includes waking seller and interrogating them, using feather to tickle the truth from them.
I agree that going ahead with purchasing from a non-responsive seller is probably best avoided.

·2 years agoI'd be upset if a seller ignored me over that many days.
I realise sellers don't have to be connected 24/7, but if you are selling on ebay, I would expect you to check in at least once every 24-48 hours.
And yes, if they are listing new stuff, then they have been on ebay.
It puts doubts into my mind as to how competent they are or how you would go if you ever had a problem with an item.
If theye ignore you before a sale, not sure how well they would respond after a sale.
There may be no way to check if they have read your messages, but unless there is a serious glitch in the system, they should have seen your messages. Anything else is incompetence.

OP2 years agoOne of the reasons I'm wondering if they have actually received my messages is that they are a high feedback seller (4526 positive received as seller, no negs) and they have an average rating of 5 out of 5 based on 91 ratings for communication. Several of the recent feedback comments mention excellent communication.

·2 years agoYes, that is odd. That's a fantastic number of sales for no negs at all.
I suppose Friday has just gone, so there could be a glitch.
If they have other products for sale, could you possibly send the seller a question through that?

·2 years agoThere unfortunately is not a way to tell if a seller has received a message unfortunately. A month or two ago eBay had an issue where when a seller contacted a buyer (hi, here's your tracking etc) it would be sent to the wrong person so it is a possibility. Or they could be really bad at communication 😉.
Personally, I hate how few clothing sellers have actual measurements! Last year I bought a "size 16-18" pair of pants for my mother and they are tight on me (size 12). Is it really appreciate so hard to grab a tape measure or ruler?

OP2 years agoI'm starting to think they are poor at communication. They have some new listings in the past few days so it's not as if they are not online.

·2 years agoSome items are relisted automatically if nobody buys or bids - or are they completely new?
Yes, it is annoying when you don't even know if a seller has seen your message. It is the same with emails. If you don't get a reply, you don't know what is going on.
Sadly, however, there is no way to know.

·2 years agoA seller doesn’t have to reply to a buyer, nothing unusual, it’s happened to me on the odd occasion.

OP2 years agoI realise the seller doesn't have to reply and that if they don't then of course I won't buy.
I was asking if there was any way to check if they had received the messages.
