Is this a breach of ebay policy???
Summary: A participant initiated a discussion questioning whether a certain situation constituted a breach of eBay policy. Several other participants responded, though the details of their responses are not provided. The topic focuses on understanding eBay's regulations.
I bought an item on ebay which claimed fast free 2 to 4 day postage.
It was marked posted minutes later followed by a message requesting $10 postage and my paypal email address. They claimed the listing said the postage excluded my area. Nowhere in the listing did is state this and in the postage details it confirmed free fast postage to my postcode.
I reported the incident to Ebay only to be told that no violation had occurred????? I have screenshots of all details/messages to show what I have said is absolutely true.
It seems that Ebay will let policy be ignored when it involves bulk sellers but will jump on individuals very quickly as they did when my phone automatically included an email in a message helping a buyer.
What experience have others had? I for one will start buying wherever I can from other platforms as Ebay has lost my confidence as a buyer and their willingness to protect buyers from what seems to be fraudulent behaviour

Sendle apply a surcharge for deliveries to regional and remote areas. The $10 amount is quoted as one of their surcharge amounts - depending on size, weight & destination of course.
If you selected eBay Postage Labels at checkout, the shipping is more than likely defaulting to Sendle which may have generated the surcharge amount of $10 when the seller printed the label.
Printing the label would automatically mark the item as sent, and then the seller sent the email trying to recoup the surcharge amount.
I'm just guessing here, but this scenario seems to be consistent with the limited information provided in the OP.

·1 year agoAll I can think of is you may have done the transaction on your phone.
I have read that sometimes items can have exclusions where freight is dearer to some areas, but it doesn't always show up on a phone. But it will on a computer or laptop.
Maybe check it out on one of them to see if that could be happening. It used to be a possible glitch with a phone app but I have no idea if it still applies.
But if you find that it makes no difference what device you use, it is definitely showing as free postage, then I would be inclined to do as etb suggests. Just don't pay, don't communicate & the seller will have to make a choice to either send it or cancel the sale and refund.
If they don't do either, you can then open an ebay claim for item not received once the expected delivery date has passed.
If this is a breach where there definitely were no indications in the ad that certain areas might not be covered for free postage, then I am not sure why ebay would say no violation had occurred. But they are so automated these days I wouldn't even be confident you were dealing with a human.

·1 year agoNo need for upset.
Ignore the request for $10. Don't communicate further with the seller
Wait till you have the item or can open a item not received case.
