Item not delivered, and they say they will send me a new item if I cancel my request. Dodgy?
Summary: flingebuntx starts the discussion by expressing concern over an item that was not delivered, mentioning that the company suggested sending a new item if the cancellation request is withdrawn, which seems suspicious. The participants davewil1964, twyngwyn, padi*0409, sandypebbles, and *casey* do not contribute additional comments or perspectives on the situation. springyzone leaves a comment, to which flingebuntx later responds, but no additional details are provided that shed further light on the issue.
A supplier claimed to have sent me something untracked. I raised a request for not getting the item.
I really want the item so I asked them resend. They replied.
No problem , will send out tomorrow. If you could please cancel the item not received request as eBay automatically refunds after a couple days . Thank you . Nicky
My understanding is that I can ask eBay to intervene after 3 days, and if I cancel, then I have said my claim has been resolved and they won't do anything. There is nothing saying I will automatically get a refund.
Does their request sound super dodgy to you?

But to add , after re-reading, if you've opened the dispute choosing
"I'd like a refund" (which is what eBay will see if you ask them to step in), instead of "I'd like the item"
AND you've asked the seller to send another one, even with the shonkiest of sellers, you can't request both.
That's the way the MBG works. It's one or the other.
Obviously if you're refunded through the dispute, you'll need to buy and pay for another item.
What is the item number ?

In fact, unless you follow up by asking ebay to intervene, you won't get a refund either.
And yes, as everyone else has said, totally dodgy.
You would really have been better off just asking outright for a refund. I know you may want the item but ask yourself-do you have the item, do you have any proof there is even another item on the way?
Has the seller trusted you enough that they have posted another item even before you cancel? I don't think so.
Therefore why would you trust them enough to cancel before you receive anything?
Your best bet is to reply that you cannot cancel until the matter is resolved and in 3 days you will need to ask ebay to step in. If they can get the replacement item to you before then, then of course you will cancel, but if they are not confident they can do that, it may be best for them to refund.

Presuming you opened an 'item not received' claim through eBay's Money Back Guarantee, you would have had two choices:
1) Request a Refund
or
2) I'd like the item
The seller has 3 days to provide you with a tracking number for the new item so ignore any messaging outside of the dispute.
You can ask eBay to step in after 3 days
Then obviously choose another seller

You would be better of sourcing the item from another seller.
What is the item number so that we can better help you?
Edit. Snap Dave and Twyn.

·10 months agoYes, common scam…..but how does the seller’s f/b look? Where are they registered?
If anything looks suss to you, continue with your claim & buy elsewhere….
or, give us the item number, and we can check for you
