    Item not fit for purpose

I have been using ebay regularly for 7 years

I reported a seller to ebay and they were going to contact the seller and push him to either accept a return or send a substitute. I have not heard anything from the seller or ebay. I am sitting here with an item not fit for purpose and have no way to contact ebay because the auto attendant refuses to put me through to an agent...what do I do?

I'm guessing this is the first time you've had a problem and you thought the best way to resolve it , was to contact eBay.

"I reported a seller to ebay and they were going to contact the seller"

What eBay say and what eBay do are 2 very different things.

Is the item from one of the sellers who has left you feedback in the last month ?

If so, there's plenty of negative feedback amongst them for faulty / not fit for purpose / not as described items.

If this is the case , as already advised, open a claim with eBay immediately.

A bit confusing,  Is the item faulty or otherwise not as described, or did you order an incorrect item.

If the item was NAD, there was no need to report the seller, but simply open a case.  You make no mention of actually opening a return request and if so was it for INAD or COM.

Good point with it potentially being ordering the wrong item rather than it being a faulty item

Hi sandy... I think the OP is originally from Blighty. "Not fit for purpose" is commonly used over there for an item that is NBG (NAD)

As the OP said - a substitute - does not imply COM.

Depends if you believe substitute = replacement and not an alternative

If not COM, why would ebay want to PUSH the seller to accept a return, if INAD ebay would not give the seller any choice in the matter

Hi...I noticed the problem after 30 days. The item is a boat cover and once I put the cover on, it was only when taking the cover off that i noticed the issues...the waterproofing rubs off on the boat and marks it needing hours to cut polish it off. the waterproofing was inadequate thus letting the water in and a strap had pulled off...i contacted the seller and he said he would come back to me with a solution...three times this happened and then nothing. i contacted ebay who said they would push the seller to respond and rectify but nothing from either party...what do i do next? it

Hi there, what a pain, the dreaded 30 day time time limit, ebay can not and will not do anything. If you paid by paypal, you may be able to make a claim there, as their limit is 180 days. Best of luck.

Edit:  by the way,  thanks for coming back with the update.

eBay are not going to do a thing since it has been more than 30 days (no matter what they typed from their script) it will not happen, the MBG is limited to 30 days, always

You need to actually open and follow through with an item not as described dispute

There is no need to contact eBay to do this

And do not rely on whatever bot or pre-written response you may get by simply 'reporting to eBay'

That is not opening a dispute

Unless you have left it too long to open a dispute by now

Open a dispute for "item not as described" through eBay's MBG.
