misleading advertisement and unable to contact ebay
Summary: mahe563208 expressed concerns regarding misleading advertisements on eBay and difficulties contacting the company. The post received responses from padi*0409, sandypebbles, and springyzone, but the content of these replies was not available. The discussion revolves around frustration with the customer service and advertisement practices of eBay.
I purchased items from a seller on ebay and the product had posted incorrect. When I received the item I emailed straight away. It is impossible to get a response from them. After many weeks of searching and continually messaging I got responses saying they could not find my order. Then I was sent an email with sellers info but when I clicked on link I keep get "Ooops something has gone wrong" I email again saying the seller is not getting back to me and they then asked or the tracking info to see if I had return the product. I again email saying I have no info of where to send back the product and they gave me a date of when to do this. The date pasted and they informed as I had no given the tracking information the case is closed keep the product, no refund!
Is ebay incompetent or deliberately deceptive?

Okay, when something went wrong, I can understand you messaging the seller. But if you didn't get a satisfactory reply within 48 hours, your next step should have been to go back onto the ebay site and do some troubleshooting, see what your options were for a sale that hadn't worked out well.
You should have gone straight to the help pages. Ebay may sometimes say in their advice to contact the seller. You actually do not have to do that.
My advice would be if you have a problem (in your case an item not as described) you should open a proper ebay claim immediately. And follow it up.
Ebay sellers then have to respond. You should not get the run around that can happen if you just get into private messages with a seller.
You only get 30 days after delivery in which to open an official ebay claim so it sounds as if you are out of time. If you paid via paypal, you may be able to claim through them.
The fact is, with zero feedback score, you appear to be new to ebay and some sellers will count on you not knowing what to do.
Just so you know, once you open a proper ebay claim, the seller has to provide a return postage label if they are in Australia. They can't be asking you to return it at your own expense, not for a faulty item.
It is not that ebay is incompetent, it is that you have not bothered to read up the terms/conditions or help pages, even now.

·1 year agoYou do not need to email ebay (and pointless to do so)
Also pointless to email the seller
You use the tools you are given, within the time limit
You do not need to contact eBay to open an item not as describe dispute
If you do your own thing, you are not covered by the MBG and eBay have no idea there is a problem
Nothing to do with eBay being incompetent or deliberately deceptive in this case
The tools were available for you to use, had you wanted to use them

·1 year agoYou go straight to a dispute with eBay's MBG, not emailing eBay or the seller.

It sounds like you've left it too late to do that now, but if you haven't open a dispute NOW, and don't close it until you're completely satisfied with the result.
