Paying cash on pick up is now the same as not paying at all
Summary: The discussion centered around a new policy change where paying cash on pick up is now considered as not paying at all. marythechatterbox initiated the conversation by highlighting the implications of this change. The discussion included multiple participants expressing their concerns and confusion over the policy's implementation, as well as its potential impact on transactions. The responses reflected a mix of reactions, with some questioning the practicality of such a rule, while others simply acknowledged the new policy change. Overall, the conversation highlighted the uncertainty and debate surrounding this new approach to payment.
I recently won an item at auction, picked it up from the seller and paid cash for it when I collected it, but there's no way of marking the item as "paid" on my end and the seller can't find one on hers either, so it now looks like I'm going to have to pay for the item a second time through PayPal to get eBay to acknowledge that the item has been paid for, and send me a pick up code so the transaction can be completed on its site and I can get the item out of my shopping cart.
I have paid cash for items in the past and the seller was always able to just mark them as "paid", but eBay seems to have put a stop to that now, presumably to stop people paying cash for items without officially disallowing it.
I can't find any mention of this trap up here anywhere, so I'm guessing this must be a new change, and one that I wish I'd known about sooner, before making the mistake of paying with cash.

·1 year agoSame thing just happened to me but it automatically paid somehow without me authorising it. Now I have no way to prove i paid the guy cash as well.

·2 years agoHang on, if you won it at auction, it wont be in your cart,

·2 years agoYes, it will. Winning an auction automatically places the item in your cart.

·2 years agoDid you provide the seller with the QR Code when collecting?

·2 years agoAs I discovered recently, no QR code is supplied until payment is made.
So, when paying cash on pickup you have no QR code.
I did find an option in the dropdown in my purchase menu to click on "mark as payment sent", which I did. This had the effect of removing the item from my cart, but it still showed as "awaiting payment" in my purchase history.
ps. I just check one of my selling accounts, and there is an option in the dropdown next to sales awaiting payment to "mark as payment received". Not sure why the OP's seller doesn't have that option. I'm also not sure whether it will then be marked as paid at the buyer's end.

OP2 years agoI did try marking it as "payment sent" but the item is still in my cart.
I don't know if the "mark as payment received" came up for the seller or not after I did that. I did message her and suggest it might last night, but I've heard nothing back yet and eBay is still showing the item as unpaid, so it looks like paying for it again through PayPal is going to be the only way of getting it out of my cart.

·2 years agoIt is not the only way, nor a good way
Your seller needs to mark it as payment received
Feel free to tell her to post on the forum and ask if she does not know how to do that

·2 years agoI found that the number "1" still showed on my cart after I marked it as "payment sent", but after I clicked on the cart it showed as empty and the number disappeared.
It's an annoying system, since cash on pickup is an accepted form of payment, and buyers don't want things in their cart after the transaction has been finalised.

·2 years agoNo, no, no.....don't pay twice. Leave it with the seller, for a while

·2 years agoI would not pay for it second time - just leave it for the moment.
Not sure even why this is happening - eBay gets their fees - cash or MP.
Perhaps ask for ID - on pick up.
Stupid really.

·2 years agoIf I (as the seller) mark as 'payment received' and item 'sent'....end of story
*Mary, send the seller the link to this thread*
