PROTECTION FOR BUYERS
Summary: nettesim expressed frustration with eBay over a transaction where communication with the seller was lacking and eBay's support felt inadequate. They purchased an item and attempted to cancel when the seller did not respond, only to face eBay's delayed intervention. sandypebbles replied, clarifying that sellers are not obligated to cancel orders and advised nettesim to open an item not received dispute instead. sandypebbles also mentioned that effective use of eBay's support tools is necessary to resolve such issues.
Ebay always helped buyers from unscrupulous sellers. That does not seem to be the case now.
I purchased an item on 29/7 and after paying and not receiving any communication from the seller I requested to cancel order which the seller refused. Ebay stepped in and said he had to reply within 3 day and they are pushing it forward every day. Seller still has not marked as sent nor contacted me. I am very angry and disappointed. I have been both a buyer and seller on Ebay for more years than I can remember - I am 73. They also make it very very hard to make a complaint to them

·3 weeks ago@nettesim It is sounding as if you have opened a proper ebay claim but what I am not sure of is what the actual date or date range of delivery was supposed to be.
As sandy said, sellers are not obliged to cancel an order. I agree with you that if your purchase was 29/7 and you have had no replies from the seller and no indication they have even sent the item, it is pretty poor on their part.
To me, a professional seller should upload a tracking number or at least communicate with a buyer if there is a hold up. Complete silence & no action in almost 2 weeks leaves any buyer feeling unsure about what is happening.
But the key thing is what date was the item supposed to arrive?
As sandy advised, make sure you have a proper ebay claim opened once that delivery date has passed. It should be for item not received.
The seller was not obliged to cancel an order but he IS obliged to make sure you get your order.
Just keep on with it, don't let the claim time out.
Don't worry about your age or how long you've been on ebay. A lot of us on this forum are grandparents but one thing we have learnt is ebay is very automated. It doesn't care how ling you've been a customer with ebay. All it cares about is that you follow procedure. As long as you do that, you should be right to eventually get a full refund. Good luck and ley us know how you get on.

Sellers are not obligated to cancel, requesting to cancel only means 'change of mind'
Asking the seller to cancel is not the same thing as opening and following through with an item not received dispute
You age makes no difference, most people here are not 'youngsters'
eBay Help is at the top of every page, all you do is type speak to an agent in the chatbot
No point complaining though if you have not opened a dispute
You HAVE protection but you need to use the tools you are given in order to get it
