Ryobi 10 year warranty
Hi all just be careful when you buy items that have a long Warranty.
In my case i bought 2 batteries that had 10 year warranty and one no longer will charge.
They are 2 year old and when you contact the supplier they will do nothing??
So why even offer a long warranty , just to make you buy there product.
Im sure there is many customers with the same problem?

·1 year agoJust a side note, Ryobi themselves don't offer a 10 year warranty, why would you think a 3rd party seller even if legit would offer a 10 year warranty.
You think that a 3rd party seller (even if legit), would perform some magic to make the battery last longer, and then sell it for half the price of one from the manufacturer. Ryobi offer a short warranty, because thats how long they think the battery will last,
It seems reality has stepped out the door.

·1 year agoYou have bought an item that is not a genuine Ryobi, from a seller who lied about item location.
If they lie about that, then they will have no trouble misleading customers about other things.
You ask why even offer a long warranty, just to make you buy the product?
You said it.
Warranties on ebay, especially from overseas sellers, are often worthless.
If ever you are buying something that needs a genuine warranty, buy from a shop or else check out the seller very carefully. Only buy from authorised sellers.
And yes, many customers fall for this, they see warranty in the ad and believe everything they read.
Ebay has a 30 day money back guarantee if an item is not as described but it is in no way a warranty so by the time a customer learns the warranty is useless, it is too late to make any claims.

·1 year agoAs sandy says, “warranty” is just a word, a promise - and a promise has only as much worth as the track record of the one giving it (unless an exceptional change occurs in the promise - for either good or bad).
The word “warranty” has as much worth as the one promising the warranty can be trusted to honour it. That means:
• is there any legislation compelling the honouring of a warranty?
• and if so, are there specific circumstances for that legal assurance?
• and can it be legally enforced?
• A warranty needs to be offered under Australian Consumer Legislation.
• It doesn’t apply to unbranded or fake items from China or other countries, or (alternatively) indeed genuine items from overseas where the manufacturers’ conditions of warranty may void warranty if imported by a buyer to Australia (these latter items being known as “grey imports”).
• Australian legislations obviously cannot be enforced when the manufacturer and seller are overseas - especially when it’s a factory in China churning out fakes. If it’s the alternative (parallel/grey import), you’re reliant upon the overseas manufacturer offering any remedy in the absence of being required to under Australian law, and certainly neither the manufacturer nor the seller in such cases can be compelled.
If you need a warranty for an item, buy from an authorised Australian dealer for that item. Make sure they are both an Australian business and an authorised Australian seller supplying for the manufacturer (i.e., supplied from either the manufacturer or the Australian distributor).
Buying electronic or electrical goods from some random seller on eBay (or anywhere) is not a good idea.
You'll have seen the news reports of disastrous and fatal battery-caused fires recently. How many of those do you think are from cheap batteries bought on eBay or similar electronic distribution platforms?* What sort of cover do you think is afforded from insurance where a non approved battery is used? Is it worth saving a few dollars and risking your life and those of your loved ones?
(* Obviously not all of those fires involved fakes or unbranded batteries… Damaged batteries, or batteries used incorrectly, or genuine batteries of a different brand not intended for that particular use are also culprits, and it reinforces how careful people must be as the fake ones are not even remotely to Australian safety standards.)
Manufactured in China under contract to a brand and subject to quality control and warranted to meet Australian standards is an entirely different electric kettle of fish to something that’s churned out as cheaply as possible with the cheapest raw materials in a Chinese factory. It’s the ultimate “buyer beware” scenario.

Have you contacted Ryobi directly ?
Are they real Ryobi or for Ryobi ?
Or, did you buy off just an ordinary random seller?
Yes, people who buy something from any random on eBay will have an issue if they expect a warranty will indeed have the same problem , and one very easy to avoid happening
Simple fact is that for the warranty to be real, the seller must be both an authorised seller/re-seller of the brand and registered in Australia
Just as the case would be if you were to sell, say a Fujitsu air conditioner , you cannot give the buyer a warranty if you are not an authorised seller for Fujitsu . You could say warranty in your ad, but it would not mean anything

·1 year agoAnd just to add, I cannot find any mention on the Ryobi website of there even being such a thing as a ten year warranty for their batteries (nor anything else)

OP1 year agoHi Yes you are correct they are TO Suit Ryobi and the sellers ADD says From Australia.
But they are not from here but overseas and don't care.
I was just letting everyone know to be careful buying products like this.
Most of the time i am in a hurry to buy but from now on will take more care.

Ps look on ebay Ryobi battery and heaps of them say 10 year warranty.

The item *might* be here, it *might* be in a warehouse here, but the seller is still in China
Where is the seller registered ?
Again, the add saying warranty is meaningless, I am not going to look because I know the word 'warranty' is just that, a word on the screen, it is not real and not enforceable
As has already been explained :
There is no warranty , unless the seller is authorised to sell the brand and registered in Australia
Ryobi does not have a ten year warranty, ever so even more of a load of rubbish
And buyers will always say 'the add says' , there are many posts like yours on the forum
Checking who you are buyer from takes a couple of seconds
Far less time than the issues (like yours) take to try to resolve, the potential damage cause by buying knock offs from China etc
