Seller being very inflexible, refusing to send item at my expense.
Bought an item pick up only which I did not realise. Accepting my mistake and contacted seller to give me his address for me to send him a prepaid satchel. He just refused to send it to me and says pick up only. Item is 1500kms from my place.

·3 years agoI'd rather spend $206.95 + postage and get a brand new one from mwave (one of the official distributors of this SSD), or even $239 from goodguys, than $200 for a used one from a zero feedback pickup only seller on eBay. Just saying.

·3 years agoYes, you are probably right. There are a few things I wouldn't buy from ebay, full stop.
That includes most electronic items, a lot of stuff from China, and shoes unless I already knew the brand and style.
But that's me and everyone is different and it doesn't really help didier with his current problem.
And I bet he'll be very wary with ebay ads from now on.
Be interesting to see how it all pans out. It may turn the new seller off selling via ebay too.
didier8850
OP3 years agoI believe it's going to be sorted out with the intervention of Ebay. (Nice lady) Seller is going to cancel.

·3 years ago@didier8850, please take on board how imastawka has explained requesting a cancellation.
If the seller is very new, they may not even know how to go about cancelling the sale.
You might even feel inclined to send the seller a link to this thread, so that they can ask if they have any questions about cancelling.

·3 years agoAs has been explained, a new seller or anyone who has sold infrequently lately, has their funds held for up to a month, till ebay is satisfied the buyer has the goods and all has gone well.
This doesn't mean they haven't been paid. The money is theirs, they just don't have immediate access to it.
If you were the buyer and had bought an item that included postage though, this would be no excuse for a seller not to post the item to you immediately. Sellers who are paid in full have to send items off asap within their handling time or they can get a defect. The ads always have an expected delivery date range and if something isn't there in that time, the buyer can open an ebay claim for item not received. And they would win the claim if the seller cannot show tracking details.
The hold on funds disappears for sellers once they have a few recent transactions under their belt.
But with a pick up sale, as you realise, the seller is not obliged to post and this one won't.
It's worth sending imastawka's link as your seller, being new, may not be sure how to refund when he hasn't actually seen the money yet.
However, that doesn't change the fact you have paid and if you get nowhere with the seller you have access to ebay to make a claim once the delivery date has passed. Just make sure you do it in the window of time. Or try paypal after that if it doesn't work.
didier8850
OP3 years agoThank-you so much for explaining the whole process. I understand why he was reluctant to send me the parcel, only have been a buyer on Ebay never a seller. So I have followed everybody's advice and requested for the seller to cancel the order and apologised to him. Let's see what happens next?
I also note that there is a time limit on things, so will monitor this closely.
Regards,
Didier

·3 years agoThe seller probably prefers local pickup because he is new and with local pickup and payment in cash he doesn't have to wait for his money because of Managed Payments.
didier8850

·3 years agoWith new or infrequent sellers, eBay holds their funds for at least two weeks:
https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-on-hold?id=4816
Of course you will have to be refunded now after the transaction is cancelled. Has it already been cancelled?
didier8850
OP3 years agoI've tried but Ebay said too late to cancel and I should deal with the seller.
papermoon.lady
·3 years agoYes, the seller has to cancel (you only have an hour to cancel), and if he indicates "problem with the buyer's address" (as already said) it will be fine because it is just true if you don't live near him.
didier8850
OP3 years agoThanks, will do that and ask him to cancel, let's see what happens and again thanks for trying to help me.

·3 years agoWhy would you contact eBay?
You were advised on the very first page, and several times after to contact the seller and ask them to cancel
I'm sorry but you come on a member to member forum, are given advice which you ignore and then say you 'did'nt know' ................kept hounding the seller, again advised what you need to do and just keep going and going and going
You do know because it has all been explained to you over and over but you seem to just want to keep playing games and keep laying the blame on the seller
didier8850
OP3 years agoI have followed people's advice and ask the seller to cancel. (yesterday) Maybe with few days delays as I am at work and busy. I do not play games, too old for that. But thanks for your help.
Still learning to navigate through the many messages.

·3 years agoYou were advised numerous times to send the seller a request to cancel, to get your money back and you won't do it
And no, the seller does not actually have your money yet, not in the way you are saying he does the money is on hold (as has been explained also) it is not actually in the seller's bank account
You are again blaming the seller, when the problem is 100% your doing and your constant harassing and badgering of the seller instead of doing the right thing
Stop blaming the seller for the issue you caused
didier8850
OP3 years agoOk thanks, for explaining this, obviously you know more than me how the system works. Myself thought I've paid him straight away, so he will have his funds straight away, now I understand why he would not send the item.
Regards,
Didier

·3 years agoNot yet, he doesn't. Paper explained about the hold on funds.
It looks like the only way you'll get your money refunded is if you send the seller this link in a message and tell him to use 'something wrong with buyer's address.'

·3 years agoMaybe the seller is aware of the pitfalls of selling such items online. It is a claim heard all too often, (item does not work, faulty, false capacity etc, request refund) then return a piece of junk or even an empty box.
As such the seller is likely to see your request, as further cause for concern.
Not insinuating in anyway, that you are not a genuine buyer, but unfortunately it is such a common scam item.
didier8850
OP3 years agoOK, taken on board.

·3 years agoYour best option is to ask the seller if they can cancel the sale, perhaps citing 'problem with address' as the reason. Sellers can suffer some consequences if they cancel sales through their own fault-I am not sure exactly how it works (long time since I was a seller) but a downgrade to their account? Something like that. But if it is the buyer who wants the cancellation, that's different. The seller will be okay if cancelling for that.
Your account won't suffer at all either if the seller cancels for an approved reason.
If the seller does not cancel, you can make an ebay claim. You have 30 days.
If that didn't work out, you can most definitely make a claim via paypal if you paid that way. It will make no difference that it was a pick up item, the fact you don't have the item is enough.
I know this for a fact as we had this happen to us as sellers. A person who lived in the next suburb demanded that we post a pick up item and when we said no, they reluctantly said they would pick up, but the next we knew, they had opened a paypal claim and had a refund.
Just make sure you don't open 2 claims at once. Try ebay, then paypal, in that order.
The seller would be far better off to cancel the sale because if they let things go to the stage where you open a claim, they can't even give you a strike of any kind for non payment.
Re feedback, it does still have some relevance and it is always worth looking at if you are making a purchase. A buyer can still give a negative or neutral to a seller. It is just that a seller can only give a positive, but they do of course have the option to leave no feedback at all.
So when you look at a person's feedback, look at 'feedback as a seller', so you can check if someone with eg 50 feedback, actually has any of it as a seller.
didier8850
OP3 years agoThank-you so much for taking the time to explain all this to me. I did pay by Paypal so that's an option for me. Otherwise asked my son who works overseas if he has a friend near Sydney. But this is becoming a nightmare.

·3 years agoSadly, this is yet another case of buyers not reading the information in front of them.
Since this is a pickup item, I can only assume that it is not paid for as the buyer indicates "cash only"? Or was there a way to pay for it at checkout?
Seller is absolutely under no obligation to change anything to suit you since you're the one who didn't read the description. However, if it is not paid for, you can politely write to the buyer, apologise for your error and say that you will not be paying for it. Request that the seller cancel the transaction so that they can relist it.
didier8850
OP3 years agoYou're right I did not read the description properly, but on the other hand I did pay for the item, have a 100% score over 250 sales, and proposed a solution to the seller at no cost to him. I.E will send him a prepaid Australia Post satchel with tracking. He refused. Pick up only he says. Now am trying to organise a TNT pick-up but he won't provide me with an address to pick up. He says meet him at the train station. TNT does not work like that.

·3 years agoYou do not have any feedback as a seller on the account you are posting on
As a buyer, eBay will only allow you to have 100% positive, it is utterly meaningless
You have been on eBay since 2005
If you do not know by now to read the listing (it says it clear as day ) that is on you
And you are still trying to get the seller to do as you want by telling him you will send a courier
The seller will be well within his rights to report you to eBay if you keep this up
didier8850
OP3 years agoOk thanks, yes I am just a buyer not a seller.
You learn something every day, 100% as a buyer is meaningless. Did not know.

·3 years agoMany years ago sellers were allowed to leave negative or neutral fb for a buyer, but now they can only leave positive fb and are not allowed to write negative comments with a green dot (false positives), that's why buyers can only have 100% positive feedback.

·3 years agostop it!
Seller wants you to pick up this item. They said NO to you sending a satchel. Couriers are a nightmare for a lot of people. The seller would need to be at home when the courier wants to pick up the item. Couriers rarely state an exact time, going with a range instead i.e. "between 2pm and 4pm". This can be very inconvenient.
The seller does not want you knowing their address, as is their right.
You would have been better off coming here asking if anyone lived near this seller who could help you out.
I once helped a buyer from WA get a large/heavy 'pick-up only' item from Sydney. Organised for it to get to a brother of mine in Sydney. I then drove 1000km to get the item from my brother and 1000km to bring it home to my place. Then I drove 3000km to deliver the item. Didn't charge the buyer a cent for doing this.
Sounds like a great thing to do for someone, but I was going to Sydney anyway and had a trip over to WA planned as well. The buyer was happy to wait for the item and I get to say "I once drove 5000km to deliver an eBay item".
didier8850

·3 years agoSince the item is paid for, your main option is to ask the seller to cancel, NOT keep asking them to send it!
1) Best solution is for seller to cancel
2) Another option is to open an Item Not Received case (not 100% sure if this can be done with a pickup item, but worth a try). Technically this puts the onus back on the seller to prove that it was "delivered".
3) Thirdly, if the dispute option does not work, you can initiate a chargeback with your bank.
Just to add - I'm not sure if you're aware that there are no warranties on Ebay. Even if you got this item, you have zero recourse after 30 days if something goes wrong. Better to buy this kind of stuff from proper Aussie stores to get warranty.

·3 years agoYou say they are a new seller.
I would imagine they have put this in the too hard basket.
They didn't list with postage and in ebay, sellers are supposed to pay fees on postage costs. They probably have no idea how they can change things over and may be concerned they will have no pick up code either.
They just wanted a clear, uncomplicated sale.
You will just have to accept they are not going to post it-don't persist with that line. Work on either getting them to cancel the sale or you could go on ebay chat, explain what has happened and see if they will do it and refund you.
didier8850
OP3 years agoThanks.
davewil1964
·3 years agoMaybe, as a new seller, they have done some research about the pitfalls of new sellers being targeted. Specifically, in this case, buyers demanding pickup items being posted.
As stawks stated, they run the risk of you opening an INAD claim.
If I were them, I wouldn't be dealing with you.
Alternatively, get in your car and start driving...
countessalmirena
·3 years agoSeller might be housebound at present; not able or not willing to bring satchel to post office.
Post office might be about half an hour away or more.
Seller might be worried about tracking and proof of delivery (although I realise tracking is included).
Seller might feel it’s too risky to send through post, especially if past experience includes damaged items.
Seller may be concerned about not having the pick-up code to prove pickup.
Seller may note protection difference in MBG for pickup items.
Seller isn’t being offered any compensation for time and expense of carefully packaging and delivering to PO.
Seller may not want to give you his/her address. (Pickup may have been going to be from a neutral place.)
Seller may understandably be wary about dealing with buyer who ignored the terms of the sale.
Seller is a new seller who may be trying to build up their selling profile without having to deal with held funds for weeks, and thus have listed pickup only with cash on pickup preferred… with the plan of listing with postage once they know their funds will be released without that delay.
Seller is new and inexperienced, thus hyper-vigilant as already suggested, and trying to work out if you are planning some sort of scam.
Take your pick.
Bottom line, OP, is that you are demanding something not in the listing. Seller has every right to refuse. Asserting that the seller is inflexible because they won’t do what you want when the listing clearly states pickup only is trying to flip blame onto the seller when it is your problem, your issue, not theirs. You could certainly ask the seller if they would agree to listing the item to you in prepaid satchel… but four emails about it indicates that they refused and you kept on badgering them.
If you can’t pick up the item, I suggest you apologise to the seller and request that they cancel the sale with the reason “problem with buyer’s address”.

·3 years agooh dear, it appears to be a very new seller.....possibly hypervigilant??

·3 years agoWhy would they post it - they don't have to.
And what happens if it gets damaged in transit?
You'll open a case for item not as described I s'pose?
Tell them to cancel quoting 'problem with buyer's address' - which is true.
sandypebbles
·3 years agoIt says pick up only and the location
It was'nt 'a mistake'
A mistake, you would have contacted the seller and apologised and asked them to cancel
Not demand the post it to you
Then come on a member forum and accuse them of being 'very inflexible'
Then send the four emails insisting they send it
And waste their time and money to go along with it, as you have likely cost them a genuine sale
Would you treat an experience seller the same way you are hounding a brand new seller?
Welcome to many party lists I imagine
The seller is not in the wrong, you are
