Seller not providing return label or shipping

Summary: A participant reported an issue with a seller who accepted a return for a faulty item but allegedly lied about providing a prepaid shipping label on an online platform. *casey* suggested checking feedback before purchasing from similar sellers and mentioned the process for eBay's Money Back Guarantee. rose_sweet_rose confirmed they had already contacted eBay to intervene but had not seen a resolution. Other participants advised starting a new thread for specific issues and warned against supporting unreliable sellers.

I have purchased a scooter from an eBay seller. It has a defective battery and only goes about 1km before it runs out.

The item was sent from a warehouse in Sydney Australia.

I am on the Gold Coast Australia.

I have started a return. The seller first provided me with a return address in China and no return label.

I said I need a return address in Australia. They then gave me a return address in Australia but no return label.

The dimensions of the box are 28kg 119cm x 20cm x 58cm

It is too large send by Australia Post

I asked them to organise a return using the courier they used to deliver. They said they cannot do that and asked me to organise the return and provided a list of couriers.

I have phoned them all and none of them do pickup at my location and none of them have a drop off location within 100km

Whose ultimate responsibility is it to organise the return shipping of a return?

I thought the seller had to either provide a label or organise shipping.

@rose_sweet_rose

No surprises there as you're dealing with a shonky dropshipper.

Poor feedback and 1137 positive automated feedback from eBay - NOT from buyers

Be sure to check feedback before purchasing .

If you opened an Item not as described claim for a faulty item through eBay's Money Back Guarantee, the seller has 3 business days to respond.

Either by refunding you or by sending you a return label with tracking.

Have a look at the case.

Do you have the option to ask eBay to step in ?

I have already asked ebay to step in but nothing has been fixed yet by ebay

No prepaid label given, lied to eBay The seller accepted the return for a faulty item but lied to the system. They uploaded their address text instead of a prepaid shipping label. I need eBay to force the refund or step in manually."

You need to start your own thread, including specifics. Have you returned? What is the item number etc?

How exactly do you suppose that will help the OP of a 5 month old thread?

If you have an issue yourself, then it's best to start your own thread instead of hijacking someone else's

You need to stop supporting dodgy sellers and you will avoid such issues from happening in the first place

If you opened an actual ebay return case and the seller has not iploaded a shipping label, then maybe get onto ebay chat and ask the rep to have a look at your messages. Say there is a problem as they have not actually provided you with a label but only with an address.

Yes. eBay Live Chat is available during business hours.

What is the actual item number? (It will be displayed on the listing, and also in the email confirmation of your purchase.)

If you chat to the chatbot about the issue for a while it eventually offers a button saying

'Contact an agent'

If you click the button the message says

'Something went wrong. Please try again later. You can also get more info searching online help - online help, or you can contact an agent.'

Is this because it is outside office hours on a holiday weekend?

If so then the message could be a bit more explanatory.

I got a voicemail from Allen (?) in the Philippines eBay customer service on Friday morning who says he read this thread.

In the voicemail it says he will call me back again but I did not get another call.

Hi Allen, if you are reading this can you call me after 4pm Australia time?

The return says I have to send the scooter back by 13th April or return will be closed. The seller has now said they will escalate with their management and try to get me a return shipper organised.

But this has been going on 3 weeks and so I am unlikely to get it returned in time.

Is there a way to get an extension on the return deadline based on the time it has taken for the seller to agree to provide shipping?

Order number is 01-14328-*****

Also it would be really good if the website still had the 'get ebay to call me' button so I could talk to somebody.

I will try through the chatbot after the holiday but it would be simpler if the old button was still there.

>>What type of return?

Item is defective

>>When did you buy this scooter?

Started the return 2 weeks ago. Since then I have been going back and forwards with the seller about who organises the shipping.

>>Did you not check feedback to see that this seller was in China?

The seller is not in China. They provided a China return address to be obstructive I think. They then agreed to provide the Sydney address from where the scooter was actually shipped.

>>But you need to get onto ebay chat asap.

There used to be a button on this page and clicking it would get a eBay representative to call you but the button is gone now.

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/contact_us?id=4041&st=10

Does that 'get eBay to call me' button still exist anywhere?

Or do they have a phone number where you can call them?

This page shows all your returns and you can take an 'action' against any return.

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/ip?topicId=4667

But the only 'action' available to me for the scooter is to mark the item as posted. there is no eBay escalation options anymore.

No need to go back & forward with the seller.

You should be able to escalate this with eBay via the return WITHOUT CONTACTING EbAY.

I will lay London to a brick on that the seller is REGISTERED in China if you check The feedback... can you provide the item # please... not the seller's ID.

Read the eBay Money Back Guarantee & make sure you have followed all the steps... see the part about ask eBay to Step In.

I can't swear to how it works now as I haven't had to use chat in a while, but I think you can still get to a real person.

I remember going to the help pages-no button immediately available to ask for a rep to call me- but when I started a 'chat', typing back and forth, it was obviously powered by a robot, AI answers.

But after a while, the system did ask if the matter had been resolved or if I needed further help and when I said not solved, it said to wait and a rep would come online. That's when I got to talk to a real person.

They don't make it easy, but it can be done.

PS As far as I concerned, if that seller cannot arrange a courier in some way to get that scooter back-and to an aussie address since they sold it as located on Australia-then ebay should force a refund to you without you having to return the thing. That would be fair. But that's just my opinion, and I'm not ebay.

Again, the only thing you need to have done was open a not as described dispute

If the seller did not resolve, escalate back then

No phoning, no emailing, no playing with the seller

And again, don't buy knock off death traps from random dodgy sellers

Clearly you do not care about your own safety, or that of those around you but the general public certainly will if your purchases cause them injury or damage to property

And no insurance will cover you if such purchases cause damage/injury/death

*casey*

You only get one chance at a return request.

Hopefully you used the reason :

Item Not As Described - Faulty item

Although you could have used the reason "Doesn't pass Australian mandatory safety standards" !

"There used to be a button on this page and clicking it would get a eBay representative to call you but the button is gone now"

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/contact_us?id=4041&st=10

If you can't see an option to 'Ask eBay to step in', in working hours using your link above,

click on "Chat with our automated assistant" at the top left of the page.

When the chat box opens on the right hand side of the page, ask to speak to an agent.

You need to open and follow through with an item not as described dispute, if you are within the time limit

Stop messing around the way you are and do the only thing you need to do

More importantly you need to not buy non-complaint death traps from random dodgy eBay sellers

Rather than return the death trap so the seller can sell it to someone else, seek advice on how to dispose of the thing legally and safely

"an item not received dispute"?

Sorry. stupid me

Not as described, of course

I'll ask a mod to fix but I don't like my chances

OP,

Not as described dispute

The rest remains correct

Stop putting yourself and others at risk by buying dodgy as batteries/electricals/etc from China

Did you buy this in the last month?

If you did, then you need to open a proper ebay claim for a defective item.

(You say you started a return. Does that mean you did in fact open an ebay claim?

Or do you just mean you asked the seller about a return?)

If you did open a proper ebay claim, I'd be getting onto ebay chat to outline your problem-you bought an item listed as in Sydney but seller is asking you to return it without providing you with any feasible way to do that.

I don't know whose ultimate responsibility it is when it comes to couriers, I would have thought for an Australian based item, the seller was responsible. But you need to get onto ebay chat asap.

Your difficulties outline a major problem with ebay. When you're buying big (or bigger) ticket items, you're not necessarily getting any warranty, no matter what the ad may say. And if a seller is based overseas, there's a good chance the items are being drop shipped. One risk is that if anything is wrong with your item, it can be a bit of a nightmare to organise returns/refunds. Some things are better bought in a real store.

"I have started a return"

What type of return?

When did you buy this scooter?

Did you not check feedback to see that this seller was in China?
