Seller refusing to sell based on the fact my account is brand new
I put in an offer on an item, and when the seller asked if I would pay higher, I stood firm on my offer due to the item being worn and damaged (it was a piece of jewellery that restoration would be costly for).
They then told me that because I have no reviews and my account is new, they wouldn't sell to me. I upped my offer and they told me again that because my account was new, they wouldn't sell.
Is this discriminatory, is there anything in the rules of Ebay that allow me to dispute this seller or report this seller based on account discrimination? It's quite unfair.

·3 years agoI only consider an offer which is ' reasonable ' for the item - taking into consideration what it is listed for.
Anyone making ridiculous or even just low offers - get lost.

·3 years agoYep if you try to low ball on an offer to the seller, than they have every right to not sell it to you.
If someone lowballs me be they a newbie like you or a long time player. They get the not selling to you option.
I had one on the item I have listed lowball me, and eventually actually came back with the price I wanted as a minimum, but they didnt get it. Sorry this is not a game.
Reminds me of a time I walked into a car dealer with cash in hand, I said give me the best and final price, which he did, I didnt like it so walked out. Over the next week he kept coming back as did the manager with better prices, did I buy, nope, if I ask for the best, I want the best.
Feel free to make an offer on the item I have for sale if I like your offer it's yours. But don't lowball me.

·3 years agoSellers don't have to give you, or ebay, any reason for blocking buyers. Messages, low offers etc. can be enough to raise concern, as can new accounts with 0 feedback, especially for high value items in high risk categories.
You indicated you were given a chance to increase your offer, you chose to play hardball and you lost.

·3 years agoA seller has the right to refuse to sell to anyone - they may have seen you as a "problem buyer".
Just try to find a similar item elsewhere, and move on.

OP3 years agoSimilar items don't exist unfortunately. But thanks! Is a "problem buyer" something that they categorise you into or put a mark on you in the community? I'm new to Ebay and the last thing I want is for someone to blacklist me for no good reason at all.

·3 years agoThere's no "blacklist" as such in the eBay community, though any seller can block any buyer if they want to.

Yes, it is unfair, but there are a lot of people who open an account just to 'buy' something and then don't pay, or do pay but then open a fraudulent claim/dispute
Not saying this was your intention, however it is entirely possible this seller has had too many such 'new' 'buyers' recently
And no, other members here are not going to 'put a black mark on you' because one seller does not wish to sell to you at this time
