Seller said she uploaded a fake tracking number.

Hello, I have purchased last week a tablet from apparently a Chinese brand but the seller appears to be their only Australian eBay store.

Yesterday, seller said this item will take another week to get here, and she would upload a fake tracking number for the time being. I understand this is what usually happens when the actual stock is located in China and told her it's fine I can wait. I thought the tracking number would be one of those "holding" tracking numbers which will remain idle for a few weeks until it reaches here then they send it to the post office / courier.

Today I found the tracking number shows movement in the postal system. Obviously that's not my item.

Their feedback are all positive for this year, although often complained about slow postage.

I don't usually purchase items located overseas, this one is an exception. Is it their standard practice to upload fake tracking numbers or should I be concerned?

    Thank you.

Guys, the story is not finished, yet.

I got a missed call from eBay this morning. I tried to call back, but the number does not receive calls, it says "if you need to contact eBay then go to contact us page" or something then it hangs up.

Then I got a msg from eBay, saying the call was regarding to this particular forum post. Apparently eBay had noticed this forum post and asked me to initiate "Have Us Call You." if I still have issues with this transaction. I never expected eBay monitoring this forum and never expected them to actually follow up on this matter.  Thank you eBay.

But my tablet works fine at the moment, and I'm satisfied with the transaction overall. So I'm probably not calling.

However if eBay are kindly monitoring this thread again, I just want to say that 2023 had been a difficult year for everyone and I myself had always been patient to all sellers (as I'm a seller myself), both XP Pen and eBay are good people. I thank XP Pen for this product so I can start enjoy drawing without wasting  a ton of paper, and I thank eBay for caring about your customers. This one week of delay from XP Pen was completely understandable during Christmas and New Year and I once again appreciate the effort from XP Pen to finally deliver the product to me and the efforts from eBay ensuring smooth and timely buying experiences for buyers.

I wish both XP Pen and eBay a prosperous 2024. Thank you all.

I think you are very gracious, huatao and I do agree with you that over Xmas and new years, it is not unreasonable to wait a few extra days for delivery as it is a busy time of year for the postal service and couriers.

I don't think the seller actually did a lot wrong except issue a false tracking number. To me, it would be better if they had just pushed out the delivery date.

I am pleased to hear that ebay did contact you. I have often had the feeling that the forums have intermittent attention. It is your decision entirely if you follow up, you are certainly not under any obligation to if you are happy with your purchase and transaction.

Something not quite right - no sales of this item mid December.

Interestingly - there has been no feedback received nor given for this item with either of the ' local  sellers '.

❝Once you've left Feedback, you won't be able to edit or delete it, unless you send the seller a Feedback revision request.❞ (So… it may be a matter of semantics, but the buyer him/herself can’t change the feedback. Minor point, I suppose.)

It’s also worth noting that positive feedback can’t be revised at all. ❝Once you've submitted positive Feedback for a seller, you can't change it to neutral or negative Feedback.❞

Yes they can,  read this, ok its not edit it revise  Catwomans original comment which domino said was not possible ''My advice give them a bad rating before they cancel, then at least you can change your rating if they fulfill their promise to you.""

Select Accept request in the email and we'll guide you through the process of changing your rating and comment. When you revise or remove Feedback, your original comments will no longer be visible on eBay

I leave it there I'm out of this discusion, obviously it has come down to semantics.   I wont mention that I have changed a rating from neg to positive, and even changed the comments,  using this process.  But hey thats life

My most recent experience is that the ratings of these sellers stay high because if you are paying attention and give them a warning that you are going to be giving them a bad rating they will definitely cancel the sale and therefore you are not able to give them a review of any kind. Just found out after having to fill in formal complaints from a seller that has a top rating  and continually lied from the original description to the day the item was supposed to arrive. My advice give them a bad rating before they cancel, then at least you can change your rating if they fulfill their promise to you.

This is a cut and paste from a forum prediction I made 18 months ago

" All I can say is when the tumbleweeds are rolling down the deserted forum streets, and the rats are fighting over a few scraps in the dark corners it wont take Einstein to work out what went so wrong. "

I gave my tablet a go.  I followed the YouTube video from channel "Crowne Prince" titled as "XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro Tablet Review + How to Install, Settings", and gave everything in the package another good look. Everything is what it should be.  Got warranty card and screen had its film on.  Pentip has no wear.

Setting up was straight forward although it does require PCs with an additional HDMI port or a laptop. Mine has Dual display port + HDMI + USB-C so it worked fine.

And here's my first sketch.  A cat. I didn't create the sketch, but it's based on an existing image from google. Overall I'm happy with its quality and value.

This eBay seller turns out to be a "sales manager" for XP Pen, now I have her full name and direct email, yay. She used her XP Pen Co. 's email address, as in xxxx@xp-pen.com,  told me in writing that this eBay store is their official AU store and they will honor warranty for my purchase. If this does not give me assurance, I don't know what does.

SO glad you got your item, but what part of WARRANTIES ON EBAY ARE USELESS don't your get? I'm telling you now, should you encounter an issue with the item, there is zero chance of you claiming warranty. You probably should have bought through their website, then maybe (a very miniscule maybe), you might be able to make a warranty claim should the need arise. Hopefully it won't come to that!

Ok, so they gave you a fake tracking number,  do you believe they gave you a real name,  and even if it is a real name,  doesnt mean a thing if they don't want to honour it.

I'm pleased it is working well for you.

As for the warranty, I just hope you'll never have to try to use it.

I'm not saying it definitely would not be honoured, just that I don't know for sure. A lot of ebay warranties are no good. Yours may be fine but only if the service centre is in Australia.

Chinese tablet for Australian market - not made to Australian standards, no product quality control, churned out with the cheapest raw material for each component (because the raw materials are the costliest and hardest-to-source aspects of any Chinese-made electronic item)…*

These items don’t have to fool the Australian buyer for long. Say… a few months. During that time buyer will have been fooled by the outer look of the thing, not explored the various functions that the tablet is said to possess, not fill up the storage only to find the actual memory is nowhere near stated capacity, not realised that the ability of the tablet to perform safely and effectively over time is compromised so that it ends up failing because a chess metal was used instead of the recommended one, etc, and that’s before you even get to the nightmare scenario of the battery exploding /catching fire and destroying not just the tablet, but also anything near it.

    You’re risking your life.

Also, in spite of anything the seller says, there is no warranty. None, nothing, nada.

No honest full-of-integrity seller uses a fake tracking number.

Combined, these factors scream “DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!”

For goodness’ sake, act now. Do not rely on eBay protection if you let yourself be swindled.

And by the way, with that fake tracking number, do you realise that your MBG timeline ends at 30 days from that delivery date? Unless you alert eBay to this debacle, now, you’re complicit in your own con.

    * Chinese-made without being contracted to make for an approved brand that must meet Australian standards. It’s different when a Chinese company must manufacture to standard for an international company. Completely different.

Assuming of course this tracking number really does belong to the tablet

The seller could have sent a block of cheese for all we know

Which on the bright side, would at least be less lethal than a dodgy tablet/disaster waiting to happen

Haven't there been scarves and paperclips sent in the past? The buyer has received an item, not much they can do about it. Sure, claim item not as described, but the Chinese sellers will promise to send a new one, and woofta, money and item lost, because people fall for their lies.

    Happy new year everyone

Countess - '' Chinese tablet for Australian market - not made to Australian standards, no product quality control, churned out with the cheapest raw material for each component (because the raw materials are the costliest and hardest-to-source aspects of any Chinese-made electronic item)…* "

I sometimes sell bulk quantities ( hundreds of the same thing ) of vintage electronic components. These are often New ( very ) Old Stock called N.O.S. The idea is that vintage radio or electronics restorers can buy them and have genuine vintage period components in their restored equipment. The scary part is Chinese buyers often take the lot and I assume, use them in new items.  These components are regularly 60 to 70 years old and have been stored in dusty shed cupboards for decades.

Its frightening to think that these are ending up in a new cardboard box in a shiny plastic bag filled with some electronic device that an unsuspecting buyer has just purchased. Its happening fairly regularly.

This is some of the stuff the Chinese buy. The resistors in the packets at the bottom are around 70 years old and stored in an old barn for decades. . Around 800 sold to Chinese buyers already.

That is scary. It's one thing for a genuine collector to be  after parts, another thing entirely if someone uses them to scam others.

    Huatao.

Okay, so you have a new tracking number.

Doesn't matter. EDD has passed. Open an ebay claim now.

I asked you before-what is the worst that could happen?

So what if you go through with a claim, get a refund then the tablet arrives after that?

You've been told there is a warranty. Let me tell you, I know of someone who bought a new camera from an Australian based seller, only to find it faulty when it arrived.

The seller's response? It had to be posted back to an overseas address, at considerable expense. This was years ago. These days I would know better and tell her to just open an ebay claim.

At least she  got her camera back eventually. Usually people here find there is no warranty. None at all.

Look, just open a claim while you can.

I know you are scared of upsetting the seller. If she asks in a message why, oh, why are you doing this? Just reply-nothing personal at all, please understand, just a business decision as the due delivery date is well past and I have to protect my iterests.

Cameras all all grey imports. Even Teds, and Dicksmiths (which is Kogan) etc. There is no such thing as warranty, unless you go direct to say Cannon's website and follow the "where to buy" links (even at these stores I heard plenty of stories where they find excuses and do not honor the warranty). Not to mention rare ones such as my BlackMagic 4K pocket cinema, I had to send a ton of emails back and forth confirming if a seller is legit, then I eventually got it from videopro, after 3 months of wait post payment (paid in Jan got it at around Easter missing Moomba).  I felt like they had to make one just for me. Which was quite ironic since BlackMagic Design is, guess what, an Australian company based in Port Melbourne.

My Ultra Sonic Vinyl Record cleaner, was also after a very long wait (more than a month post payment).

For products with a very small customer base, you'll just have to wait. It's just the way it works,  often their stock is empty and they have to get one just for you (somehow, from somewhere).

Other common house hold products, with warranty I think it really depend on the manufacturer. I bought a Dennon soundbar from eBay, then a few days later I got an email from Dennon Australia asking me to register it for warranty, and I filled up their online form, uploading purchase receipt and  a photo showing the part where serial number was and everything was fine.

Back to the topic. This XP Pen, like it or not, is the 2nd best selling drawing tablet in Japan 2022, after Wacom. Reason is maybe they actually started in Japan and moved to China later.  But even so, I doubt there are many people like me who decided to pick up cartooning as a hobby at this time of the year.  So I was prepared for a few weeks wait, as long as it's within my 6 months PayPal dispute window.

Tracking updated again, my tablet is now at the nearest AP facility. Yay~~ Should have it either today or Monday. For it to turn up within 2 weeks at the end of the year is quite excellent in my standard.

I am glad your item arrived.

I was worried the seller might string you along for over 30 days so you couldn't open an ebay claim as not everyone buys by paypal. I always do as it gives you that longer window and I do a lot of buying off ebay.

I do hate to see any buyer losing money on ebay because they waited too long to open a claim.

I don't know that I am shocked it arrived, I thought it could possibly go either way but my philosophy these days is when in doubt and EDD has passed, don't mess around, just open a claim. I particularly dislike the use of a fake tracking number and if I were you, I'd be inclined to ask the seller why they did that.

I know nothing about XP pens. I just hope that yours is the genuine item and that it is covered by a genuine warranty. Those are aspects that would worry me. I just prefer to buy things like computers, tablets, cameras etc from real stores.

But good luck with your hobby and happy new year!

The seller looked legit and as you say everything leads back to a warehouse in Sydney. The fake tracking number must be to do with delays in getting stock to the warehouse at this time of year as it would be normal practice to extend handling time to allow for delays in shipping that occur regularly. Normally one or two late deliveries are fine but they may have had more than that which would lead to going over the allowed percentage.

I do have to say I am glad  you showed patience and where confident everything except for the original tracking number looked legit. I am unsure why so many get carried away with their posts as things do go wrong time to time but not always.

So you think it is acceptable to post fake tracking numbers?

    Dodgy business practice?

If they don't have stock, don't sell it.  simple really,  giving good sellers a bad name,  and leading the buyers on.

I would mark as posted but not use a fake tracking number as you can see what can happen if you do.

Not sure how this gives good sellers a bad name. If your sales are down it may be due to other factors then how other sellers conduct their business. I know it does not effect mine and if you read negative feedback from sellers who sell the same product many say they will shop from another seller next time.

It does look as if the fake tracking number was a ruse but I can't for the life of me understand how it would work if the seller struck a buyer who opened a claim once the estimated due date had passed. Surely if a buyer contacted ebay and said, "Hey, look, the seller has told me they sent a false tracking number & it hasn't even been delivered to my state, let alone my suburb, " etc, ebay would award the claim to the buyer and caution the seller?

As a buyer, I have never in my life been given a false tracking number on any buying site.

It would put the wind up me, it would make ebay seem a dodgier site than others, chameleon is right about that.

Sellers should have the stock before they sell, simple as that. If it isn't with them, if it is off in some Chinese warehouse & there are delays expected, then the seller should simply hold off on listing for a while or else extend the delivery date right out to give a wider margin of safety.

I try to be a reasonable buyer, I think I am usually, but I would be really upset to be given a false tracking number, and worried.

There may be another explanation for the tracking number saga - perhaps lost in translation - seller may have meant that she  had put the wrong tracking number. I've seen some really strange translations into English, and funny ones.

eg a Finnish to English translation that decided to call a mixed breed dog a b=======d instead of a mongrel.

Guys, yesterday afternoon seller sent me a msg apologizing for the delay and said the new tracking (which is mine) should update soon as they had dropped my item at AusPost.

This morning when I checked the tracking number, it did update. It was processed at the same AP facility as the fake one, which is located at the next suburb as their street address.

So everything appeared quite normal apart from the "fake tracking number" part. Maybe she needed it "delivered" on time to get her end of of the year bonus, who knows.

How do you know this tracking number is real? We have bought several items that were clearly drop shipped from China. Within half an hour of purchase, an AP label had been generated. Obviously by the seller's Australian contact, with a real tracking number. The tracking would state that the shipping information had been received by Aust Post. 1-2 weeks later, the tracking would update to say the item had been received by Aust Post and it was on its way. No need to upload fake tracking numbers, because they had generated a real one.

I am still with everyone else in that you need to claim not received. You are setting yourself up for potential disaster. The Chinese are the masters of scamming and will tell you exactly what you want to hear to string you along. I'm telling you now, get to 31 days after the estimated date of delivery, you are toast. Ebay won't help you and you'll never hear from the seller again. EVER. Get a refund. If the trash tablet ends up arriving, you can then choose to repay the seller.

Just thought of a possible scenario..........the seller is drop shipping.

The 'fake' tracking number was the tracking number that the item was being shipped to the seller with (OP mentioned that the tracking was to the seller's suburb).

Once the seller received the item, they then sent it on to the OP using the new tracking number.

I have no idea what the purpose would be to do it like this but it's plausible🤔

    🤔

It's a Chinese registered seller - so it's more than likely that they are (item number 393384311343).

The OP has been repeatedly advised to urgently contact eBay's CS but hasn't apparently yet, and is still hoping the item will arrive before the MBG cutoff date.......................

It's actually one of the oddest cases I have read about on ebay.

I've heard of people having trouble with tracking numbers but for a seller to openly tell a buyer they uploaded a fake tracking number.. this is whole next level.

Once the EDD is past, time to open a claim for sure.

I am worried the seller may try to string the buyer along till the 30 day limit has passed & huatao definitely should not let that happen.

    Also worrying .....

Is this a 'random one off' from a seller scrambling to avoid a defect?

Or something we will start to see other buyers starting to post about happening to them to?

What does Australia Post/et all think about fake tracking numbers being used?

I suspect that it isnt fake as far as Australia Post goes,  but rather a real tracking number that has passed through the system legitimately,  as OP has said that one is now showing as delivered.  I am guessing (big guess),  that it is one used on a non Ebay sale to another client,  so it went through ok.

If my guess is correct all good with Australia Post,  it's just swapping tracking numbers on Ebay,  which is dodgy anyhow.

And you believed it? Why are you falling for their carp? Take note of this WARRANTIES ON EBAY MEAN NOTHING. Did you read that? Want me to repeat it? WARRANTIES ON EBAY MEAN NOTHING. You CAN'T claim a warranty on ebay. While the seller mentions them, usually the Chinese, it's to suck people in. Sure, you can try to make a claim when it catches on fire, but by then, the seller is long gone and there is ZERO you can do about it. She may be all lovey dovey now, but come day 31, you'll never hear from her again. The days are ticking since you got the fake delivery notice.

They are telling you what you want to hear. What part of that don't you understand? You have fallen so much into their spell I bet if they told you to jump off a bridge you would. YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED AND ARE GOING TO BE RIPPED OFF!!!  What part of that can't you understand?

I think I'm pretty much done here. I'll just sit back and wait for you to come back crying because everything turned to doggy doo doo. Some people just can't be helped. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so gullible and falling for complete tripe. Good luck. You're going to need it.

Guys, I decided to wait for a week as seller told me, since I confirmed that this seller is indeed the official AU seller for that product. If I cancel this order by lodging a eBay or PayPal case, if I want to buy again, it's going to be them again.  I also got to know their phone number and street address (it's a warehouse). So although it appeared strange, it didn't look like a case of scam.

Fake tracking was "delivered" last Friday as expected. And the order was also "delivered".

But today seller indeed uploaded another tracking number, which is it's now "pending".  Order's status is now "sent".

I had never previously seen an order changing status from "Delivered" to "Sent". But it indeed happened. My thinking is again seller was trying to avoid some sort of "late delivery".

Did you ask the seller or are the actually under eBay as an authorised seller?

I agree it is unlikely a genuine, authorised seller would be so dodgy

And if they are, in your shoes, I would be reporting them to the company they are authorised to

Certainly makes them look bad as well in that case

As others have asked, how do you know this is an authorised seller?

I hope it isn't on the seller's say so. A person who uploads fake tracking numbers isn't highly trustworthy.

I don't care why they gave you a fake tracking number. Maybe it was, as you say, to avoid some sort of late delivery, but it is just not on. Any seller doing that and openly telling the buyers that is a disaster waiting to happen, in my opinion.

I hope your item does indeed arrive soon but if I were you, I'd be keeping a careful eye on the dates and opening an ebay claim for item not received if you get near the 30 day limit.

Even if you do receive the item, I would consider reporting the whole thing to ebay and think long and carefully about your feedback.

This is not a good experience, it is not honest, it is not above board, it is not fair.

Hello, I have purchased last week a tablet from apparently a Chinese brand but the seller appears to be their only Australian eBay store.........

Guys, I decided to wait for a week as seller told me, since I confirmed that this seller is indeed the official AU seller for that product. If I cancel this order by lodging a eBay or PayPal case, if I want to buy again, it's going to be them again

What is so special about this brand that you feel you have to have it at all costs?

In your opening post, it didn't sound as if you knew that much about the brand. Now it appears you are willing to wait indefinitely for this brand above all others.

Let's get some things straight (assuming you return to read the posts)

    1. China is the home of fake branding

    2. Electronic stuff you buy direct from China may not be safe and you can forget any warranty. You won't be able to claim if things go wrong.

    3. Your estimated due date seems to have been about the 22 Dec (if I have interpreted your posts correctly). It's now the 28th. Time to stop messing around.

This is not an ethical seller, it is not standard practice to be giving out false tracking numbers.

Open an ebay claim now, today, for item not received. Get onto ebay chat. Make it simple. Item has not arrived, EDD is well past, seller sent a message to say false tracking had been given. Rep can check your messages.

    Get a refund.

Buy elsewhere. Preferably from a real store here in Australia, with a warranty, I am sure you can find another brand. Yes, it may be dearer but you'll get it.

Why are you waiting? What is the worst that could happen if you open a claim? You will get a refund. The tablet might arrive after you are refunded. (Doubtful)

If you hold off too long, you won't get a refund and you won't get a tablet.

I sent seller a msg asking what's the deal with that tracking number and is it going to be delivered tomorrow.

She replied "it's fake please ignore, real one will come out next week".

I'll give it another week or 2 then. I understand I have 30 days window to lodge a dispute. But at least there are multiple times seller admitting the tracking number is not valid I should have a good chance, also it doesn't look like seller was trying to scam (just some stock / logistic issues), if not then later there are plenty of evidence I can provide with PayPal.

No, No No,  don't wait a week or 2.  lodge the case the second the EDD passes,  if you wait, than they will try to string you along for another week, and another week, and another.

Open the case,  don't close it till you either have your item or the $'s.

Don't play thier game, they admit it is fake and you are giving them more time.

YES - so get onto live chat - NOW.

Right so eBay still doesn't have a system dealing with fake tracking numbers. It was like this a few years ago but it looks like nothing changed.

Dealing with eBay's chat agent is really hit and miss (more misses) in the past. Some times they told me to wait for a few days longer sometimes they said they understand but no idea how to overrule, sometimes they said just file a charge back with the bank.

I'll give this seller some faith and if nothing in 10 days I'll call PayPal supplying all evidences. Last time when I called PayPal, refund was sent before I finished explaining.

Would it not stand to reason - even if fake - tracking has been given and shown to be delivered.

Have you checked the tracking - where has the package been going - through which State etc.

Seller is in Granville NSW, tracking also started from Granville, it's still at NSW but ETA tomorrow. So I assume the intended recipient is also in NSW.  I'm in Melbourne. The order's EDD is also tomorrow.

But that's not the point, the point is seller bluntly told me "That tracking is not for you." as if this is what they do all the time. So I thought it's now a standard practice among these sellers to upload fake tracking so their late deliveries won't be punished by eBay's algorithm.

NO NO NO. If you open a case with Paypal you cannot go back to an eBay dispute.

Go back to eBay's CS reps and ask to speak to a supervisor and ask them to look at the emails the seller has sent you.

Edit to add. There is absolutely no reason for them to give you a fake tracking number unless they are trying to scam you.

I'd be inclined to go onto ebay chat today and explain the situation, have them look at your messages. That way you are at least leaving a documented trail. And I'd be opening a claim asap.

The whole thing sounds extremely odd to me. If an item is in NSW and tracking is showing delivery tomorrow, then I'd say it is being delivered to someone in NSW. So you would at least have the evidence that it wasn't even delivered to your state.

Re your paypal claims. What I found (when helping a sister in law who had problems with 2 items from same company-not on ebay), was that she was refunded on her first claim automatically, immediately. I presume this was because she had never made a claim before, despite using paypal for years. The second claim though, she had to wait.

    Try ebay first.

Fake tracking updated showing it will be delivered tomorrow. If I open a dispute I will mostly likely lose.  Right?

I have never in my life read of any seller telling a buyer they are uploading a fake tracking number.

I've read of people who have had trouble with the tracking numbers they have been given, but never of a seller claiming it is fake.

I suspect you are right and your item is located in China, hence the delay and the reason they have customer complaints about slow postage.

Where the item is located and what the treacking number is, they are not really your problems.

You have bought an item and it will have an estimated date of arrival.

You can hold the seller to that, you don't have to put up with nonsense of waiting for weeks and weeks after the ETA.

If the item does not arrive on time, you can open an ebay claim and personally, I would be inclined to. Don't close it till you have your refund.

The seller would have to show that tracking showed it as delivered to you and if that had not happened, you would be refunded.

I suspect the item would quite possibly arrive in the week or weeks after that but if a seller advertises their stock as located in Australia but they can't get it to you by the ETA then that's their problem, not yours.
