Hi all
I purchased an item (a soft planner cover, A5 size) and the ad said postage was $12.95 for an eBay postage label. The seller (100% feedback btw, over 400) sent me a photo of the package and it was in a soft small padded bag with two $1.70 stamps on it (postage from and to NSW), so obviously no tracking.
I am mainly concerned as I asked for the item to be sent to a parcel locker, but the info on Australia Post says ‘letters’ can’t be sent to a parcel locker (obviously with the stamps she has sent it as a letter).
Any thoughts? I have messaged her as to why she sent it as a letter when I paid $12.95 which would have included tracking, no response, but if she does I will be asking for a refund of the difference.
Any thoughts or other ideas? I hope I get the item (it was near $100 so I have zero idea why she would just sent it as a letter with no tracking!)

OP9 months agogood news, my item in the parcel locker. Thank you everyone for your replaces

OP9 months agoupdate: she refunded me the difference in postage and said she sent it as a letter because the post office said she would be able to and she thought it would be nice to save me money. I’m still confused as she didn’t tell me this or ask if that was what I wanted, and didn’t send me the refund until I asked. I just hope it arrives I guess

The seller only has 57 for selling, a couple in the last 6 months and the rest quite old, over a year ago.
There's no excuse for not telling you, but it looks like she's starting afresh, possibly trying to understand postage costs these days.
Good to hear she refunded you and fingers crossed you receive it safely

OP9 months agoThank you. I’m not mad, just a bit perplexed by it all and do hope I get the item. I will pop back when I hopefully do for an update!

·9 months agoI think you will get it okay. Sometimes Australia post is slow but it is pretty reliable, on the whole.
It sounds like an honest enough seller who made a spur of the moment decision and not an entirely sensible one.
Since you had already paid postage, I would have just gone with that. Safer with tracking and less messing around.
Even if she had decided to save herself the money, it never goes down well with buyers if they see a big difference between what they were charged and what the buyer paid.

·9 months agoYou are misinterpreting the AP policy - which seems to be extremely common.
"Letters and standard mail that can be delivered to your letterbox" are not suitable for parcel lockers.
The use of 2 postage stamps indicates that it is being sent as a large letter. Large letters simply don't fit in a standard letterbox (see pic).
It would be an entirely different story if it only had one stamp though.

OP9 months agoOh ok, that’s great, thank you. I assumed it applied to all letters. Fingers crossed it arrives!

·9 months agoIt's pretty silly on the seller's part.
You paid for a tracked parcel, which they haven't used. Parcels have up to $100 insurance; letters don't have any.
Unscrupulous buyers could claim not received as there is no tracking and the seller can't prove postage.
A lot of potential negative scenarios for the sake of making an extra $5 or $6 on a $100 sale.

OP9 months agoShe has good feedback but I just don’t understand why she would have done it this way. So hopefully she has an answer

·9 months agoYes, seller is taking a chance….but I think you’ll receive it.
Let us know if you don’t
carmenaw

·9 months agoI have successfully sent envelopes to a p/l……..
But you are not getting what you paid for, so you could lodge ‘item not as described’ claim or/and leave appropriate feedback

·9 months agoHow do you get A5 size into a small padded bag?
Has the seller sent the wrong photo to the wrong buyer?
carmenaw
OP9 months agoIt’s a 151mm x 229mm padded mailer from Australia Post. An A5 planner would fit for sure. The photo has my name and parcel locker ID on it, so definitely my package. I can only think when she got to the post office they said it would fit as a letter so she just went with that, but it beggars belief given the cost that she wouldn’t have sent it in a small satchel which has tracking (and what I paid for really!)
carmenaw
OP9 months agoYeah I am assuming the post office told her it could go that way and they would have had to enter the parcel locker ID I think?
I was just worried it might be sent back or get lost with no tracking option
