    Sellers cheatinf the system

Sellers are putting their products up with some stupid other cheap item so they come up first. For example. Search for a digital hygrometer. Choose price+postage first. The first one says $2.48 to $7.48. The options are then to choose the hyrgometer for $7.48 or a STICKER for $2.48. What a con. Will buy elsewhere.

It is an obvious misuse of the system and many sellers, especially from China, do it.

The rule on ebay should be (in my opinion) one type of product per ad and one product only, with variations allowed only for size, colour, design. What is in the title should be all that is allowed in the variations.

Ebay must know lots of sellers are misusing it but they are ignoring the problem.

It is extremely annoying because until a buyer actually opens and reads each ad, they cannot know what the actual prices are for that item, but they may not realise that if they are not familiar with the dodgy way drop down menus work on ebay.

One could use the obvious misuse of listing with variations as a warning bell. Just think: OP, you were saved from buying from a bad seller.

No need to tell other members you are leaving because you don’t know how eBay works, or the very simple ways to avoid seeing variation listings in the first place

You have been here since 2000 so no excuses you don’t know the basics

Plus given the rubbish feedback of the sellers you often support, it is no loss if one less person is here to do so

ziggy has not said he is leaving as such, just that he will buy a hygrometer elsewhere.

Which, to be honest, would not be a bad idea.

It is a much easier job to look up hygrometer on Amazon. Nice, clear photos, definite prices and in plenty of cases, same day delivery if you order early (or if you opt for normal delivery, within a day or so).

But in my quick Amazon search, I saw nothing remotely as low as $2.48 or even $7.48. Cheapest I saw was $8.99 with better quality ones much dearer. Ziggy, if you come back to read any of the posts, I'd advise you to spend a little more, doesn't have to be a fortune, but go up a little in price in your search as I suspect  ebay ones at $7.48 are likely to be rubbish.

It's allowed and the feature is used very often by very obvious dropshippers ( like the seller at the top of the search you mentioned), very often they're registered in China, with poor feedback, selling cheap rubbish

Just looking at that seller's  feedback  alone, feedback shows one didn't arrive and the other shows it to be cheap rubbish

Feedback for another item shows "same as Temu but more expensive"

The seller is no doubt  sourcing and / or dropshipping from Temu !

    "It's allowed"

To add,  while it is very often misuse of the variation listings policy,  it's never worth reporting.

eBay will ignore all reports and  allow it when it comes to shonky dropshippers, as they make a lot of money from them !

It's a  shame  that buyers continue to support such sellers.

Casey, I sometimes wonder about that. With buyers on eBay shifting their attention to other selling platforms for various reasons. Perhaps eBay is wearing blinkers when looking at this problem, as it's quite likely to be one of the reasons buyers are going elsewhere for their products. JMHO.
