    Tax Invoices and dodgy suppliers

Summary: na_auto raised concerns about eBay business sellers not providing tax invoices required by Australian law and questioned eBay's oversight. sandypebbles advised reporting the issue to the tax office and clarified that this forum is not monitored by eBay. twyngwyn suggested checking purchase history for receipts. e_purchasing corrected na_auto on tax invoice requirements, emphasizing sellers' responsibility for compliance, not eBay's. 124danie explained issues with eBay's policy on sending tax invoices through messages, while davewil1964 noted an alternative tax approach when invoices are unavailable.

When is eBay going to address GST from its business sellers when multiples of them cannot supply me with a tax invoice for my business?

We had to jump thru hoops to prove who we were as a business to sell on eBay and yet you have multiple supposed businesses in Australia that cannot give me a tax invoice and constantly say they are only a third party - does the tax office know they exist on your platform?

All our sales have a tax invoice supplied which is required by law in Australia.

If your supplier can't give you a Tax Invoice, you can claim the entire amount against income. In which case your tax liability is the same. Except that you might have to pay GST quarterly, but your overall tax liability is the same come 30 June.

I send a Tax Invoice Electronically with every order to Ebay Messages, however since about 2 weeks ago Ebay are not permitting Tax Invoices to be sent through Ebay Messages. Ebay says it is due to Tax Invoices having "Contact Information". Only option now is to print them and send with each order which is a bit silly as it provides the same "Contact Information". Ebay Artificial Stupidity is very Gen Z..........

Incorrect , transactions under $82.50 are not required to have one supplied (unless business T/O exceeds I think 20 Million ).

Furthermore, you can be a business and not turnover more than $75K and not have to meet GST requirements

I suggest you speak with your accountant for explanation and clarification.

Ebay state clearly that it is up to each seller to ensure they comply with regulatory requirements. It is not eBay's job to ensure compliance, it is the government's.

You had to jump through hoops as eBay wants to ensure, to the best of their abilities, that anyone on the site that sells is bonafide and not that you are complying with state or federal regulations.

You would need to ask eBay since posting here is not communicating with eBay

And it is not 'our' platform since this is a member to member forum eBay do not read

Are the business sellers in question actually showing as being registered in Australia ?

Have you reported them to the tax office?

If I had such a concern that is what I'd be doing

Would take no more time than posting here, which, as said, is not communicating with a single person from eBay (who would only be responding from a pre-written script if they did)
