Untracked Shipping Protection for Buyers

I recently purchased an item from an eBay seller with "Ground Advantage Shipping" as the only option. 5 days after the purchase, the shipping status was finally updated to indicate "Shipping Untracked." I've never seen this before and didn't even know there was an option to ship an item "untracked." Had I known it would be shipped this way, I would not have purchased this rather expensive item as I want to follow progress of shipment and "Ground Advantage" includes tracking, so I don't even understand why the item would be shipped this way. I have reached out to the seller for days asking for an update on shipping and have yet to receive a reply, but this latest update from eBay about the actual shipment concerns me. My question is this, how is "Shipping Untracked" even qualify as proof that the item has shipped and more importantly, what are my buyer protections here if I don't receive the item? I am assuming that eBay will refund me if there is no tracking submitted or actual proof of shipment.
