I was scammed into closing a dispute by the seller. They said that they could not send a replacement item until I closed the case. I took it in good faith. Guess what? No replacement item, no way to address it through ebay and no further contact from the seller. Hope no one else falls for this.

Sadly they do and the best advice we can give them, apart from being fully aware of eBay's MBG policy,
is to always check a seller's feedback before buying.
Your seller has 444 negative feedback and 649 neutrals in the last year, 81 negative just in the last 4 weeks.
You 'may' be able to do a chargeback through your bank

read up on the basics, and it should never happen again

Did you not, in that time, ever read the boards/apprise yourself of how the MBG works/learn how to check seller feedback?

You need to follow eBay policy for the eBay MBG
If you instead ‘do what the seller says’ you are not covered
Plus, it shows September in your photo, so way out of time now, even if you *could* reopen a case
Always a good idea for all buyers to be aware of basic buying policy
You recourse was keeping the dispute open and following through with it
The send a replacement line is the oldest scam in the book from dodgy sellers
