Ebay changes my default addresses using their autocomplete attribute values
Summary: strazzygirls shared a frustrating experience with eBay Australia, where their address is auto-changed when creating a shipping order, causing errors due to character limits. Despite contacting both eBay and Australia Post, the issue remains unresolved, with both organizations blaming each other. twyngwyn suggested reporting directly to Technical Issues, but strazzygirls faced unhelpful responses. sandypebbles pointed out that eBay's technical support is often inaccessible, which added to strazzygirls's frustration. *casey* offered a practical solution by suggesting adding a new address instead of editing the existing one, which strazzygirls appreciated and planned to try.
After decades selling and buying on ebay (Australia), I can no longer do either!!
The issues is my address (as a delivery address and a return address).
The issue is that no matter what address I have in my ebay profile, when an Australia Post shipping is created ebay auto change my address to a longer version.
An error then occurs saying "The character limit for address line 1 is 40 characters, and what you've entered is 41 characters."
No amount of changing it, trying to edit it, or trying to fix this works!
Ebay say it's Aust Posts problem ... Aust Post say it's Ebays problem !!!
I am going in circles with this issue.
Meanwhile, I can't buy or sell.
Help please :)

Instead of of trying to edit the address, what happens when you click on
Add another address, underneath the Edit box
Account Settings > Addresses > Edit > Add another address > click Save

OP4 days agoThat's a great suggestion. Thank you. I will try that :)
Ebay defaulted to the same "suggested auto filled address" again, but I will see if this still helps.

strazzygirls
OP5 days agoYes.

OP5 days agoJust had another hour talking with Tech Issues. They went in circles, did not fix the issue, said there wasn't an issue (even though I provided screenshots there is one) and hung up on me. Seriously, what can a person do ????

You don't get to talk to Tech.
Go to one of your listings >>> three dots top of page>>>>click on Help & Report>>>>>>click on Report Technical Issues.
I believe it goes direct to USA. Sometimes they even answer you.....

OP5 days agoWell then they two guys I chatted with are liars in your opinion. He said he was from Tech. I don't have dots, I don't have any items listed right now BECAUSE I CAN'T POST orders so they get cancelled. I don't have the option of reporting the two listings that had to get cancelled.

·5 days agoIt is not 'our opinion' it is a fact
Nobody gets put through to tech
And if they told you otherwise, then yes
Just as if anyone uses eBay help to speak to an agent and the agent, typing from a pre written script tells you they will escalate it to tech, it does not happen
It would be like me phoning my local Woolworths and a person there telling me they are the CEO
Pure porkies
Feel free to do a search of the forum and see if you can find anyone who has spoken to 'tech'

·5 days agoRude much, it is an honest answer
If you would rather believe what the guy told you, you are more than welcome
Nobody gets to 'speak with tech'
You don't want to believe what we say, you don't want to search the forum to find out for yourself
Nobody here can help you

Personally, if I were shown that someone was misrepresenting their position, stringing me along, and doing whatever they can to fob me off without actually addressing the issue on any level, I would consider that to be very helpful. Such knowledge would assist me to save my own time by not wasting it on completely pointless, and rather futile exercises.

OP5 days agoAs the sale and purchase had to be cancelled due to the address issue, I can no longer report the item numbers or the order numbers.
