There already is a level playing field . . . everyone knows when an auction ends and has the opportunity to bid their maximum bid before auction end.
Another nail, I think I'm closer to leaving now.

·1 week agothats what i do since they removed the option, but it still helps build momentum and engages buyers more so than not 😊 it makes auctions a bit more fun, but of course i know that fun is not allowed anymore 🤨

·1 week agoIn addition to this, personally i would love to see Ebay bring back the Reserve Price option that was available many years ago, its no longer available to Australian sellers which is a pity.

·1 week agoThis is a great method, it means that items will get what they should get, rather than buyers waiting for that last second. Bids will get placed earlier on in the listings which is what every seller wants to see

·1 week agoThe members complaining about it are mostly buyers who dont have items to sell. This will improve results for sellers and buyers who like the items and not for resellers. I am totally 100% for this. I have had to use the Buy It Now for quite some time due to split second bidders. This is a great method and fairer.

I’m perfectly happy using Buy Now if that’s available for what I want.
When an item is listed for auction, I set up my highest bid on Gixen. It’s the maximum I am willing to pay. I’d pay that without complaint. I also place a bid on eBay - not my absolute max, and the reason for that is that I want the seller to know there’s a serious bidder but I do not want another potential buyer or anyone to expose my maximum by bidding me up, potentially retracting their bids for whatever reason they may have. This differs to live auctions, and it’s the reason for a different method for items listed for a fixed time rather than coming up in a “live” online auction.
By the way, no one in a live auction would expect the auctioneer to say “Let’s sit here for 3 minutes while all of you think about this” after the highest bid is placed. That’s as nutty as a squirrel’s cheek. No…it’s “I will sell. Going once, going twice, SOLD to the lady in the second row!”

·1 week agoJust ridiculous. Stupid and annoying.
As a buyer I like to bid as late as possible. If I outbid someone else's maximum, too bad. If they were prepared to pay more, why not bid that amount in the first place. We do.
As a seller I choose the auction ending time. We often have several auctions coming off within a 15 to 20 minute period, so buyers can bid on several of them a couple of minutes apart if they want to. Under this system they would have to keep watching the first auction, possibly missing out on the next one or two.
Thankfully we have decided to slowly scale down our eBay operations, although we still plan to sell for a few more years. More cruising, less work. 😁

·1 week agoNot sure what rock you have all been hiding under as no other auctions I am aware of have a set end time with no extension for last minute bids. They all are extended from 30 seconds to 10 minutes depending on the auction company. Ebay is likely the last to have continued using their outdated system.
I feel it will help both buyers and sellers as many buyers can tend to over bid then end up not paying anyway.

·1 week agoI was referring to how the auction ends not when the announcement was made. Ebays method of ending on a set time is not always the best outcome for the seller who wants the maximum price.
Other than ebay auctions have you used other auction sites where the bidding is extended. Sellers tend to get higher prices and buyers dont end up missing out in the last second. The only losers will be those trying to get a bargain. You can still enter your highest price and wait to see if another buyer is willing to pay more.

·1 week agoIf I’m bidding on an auction, it’s almost always a time-critical situation. Addressing just one example, I may well have set up various fall-back snipe bids in the event that my first option was not successfully won. I do not want to be left with multiple secondary wins just because an auction has been dragged on and on like a pile of blood-soaked feathers AKA a dead bird in the mouth of a feral cat.
NB: (Not my cat. He is a good cat, an indoor cat with impeccable and unpeckable manners.)
The extend-an-auction setup is just ridiculous.

·1 week agoThat is the announcement of terminal illness. eBay auctions are now under the care of a snake-oil-dispensing ghoul whose nostrums kill the patient.
I’m not saying I’ll never bid on an eBay item again, but far far far fewer shall cause me to so much as consider bidding. eBay has already dropped in my item search regime: stupid extend-extend-extend-an-auction will continue the downward trend in a great thud.

when I used to have items listed as auctions, I chose when the auction would end.
I'd pick a time, most often a Sunday evening, that would let a buyer pay before heading off to bed. I'd package up and address the item ready for posting on my way to work.
Under extended bidding, bidders will try to win an item for less than the maximum they are prepared to pay. Bidding becomes a war of attrition. Auction sellers will have no control over when an auction will end.
My message to buyers has always been to bid the maximum you are prepared to pay. If you miss out, there is no "I would have made another bid if there was time" because you bid your maximum.
