Large letter postage
Summary: The discussion revolves around changes to postage regulations, specifically the weight limits for large letters, which will change after September 1. pnc75 mentions that items over 250g must now be sent as parcels, although prepaid letters can still go up to 500g. twyngwyn and davewil1964 provide input on alternative options and costs. pnc75 expresses concern over losing tracking ability, preferring tracked options due to concerns about scams, especially when selling on platforms like eBay. twyngwyn shares information about upcoming changes, including technological updates to prepaid envelopes to prevent counterfeiting.
So from what I can see, after September 1, large letters are only allowed for items under 250g. Anything over that has to go as a parcel. Thought something like this might be on the cards when they introduced the extra small parcel.

Medium C5 envelopeÂ
Up to 500g162 x 229 x 20mm$4.70$45.85 (1-4 packs)
$44.65 (5+ packs)2
So my preferred option will still be available. After they cancelled C4s, I have already factored in XS parcels for anything too big for a C5.

·1 week agoMy postmaster has told me that the next generation of prepaid envelopes, will have a ‘code’ embedded in the ‘stamp’, due to all the fake items out there…..is that what you’re alluding to?

OP1 week agoActually, cancel that. I've just found this and 250g to 500 will be $9. I suspect it's only a matter of time until they phase it out completely :

I doubt they will get rid of them, as they’ll be needed for documents….ie courts, etc
