eBay always had a problem with fakes and unmarked replicas. You would report them and sometimes (rarely) someone would look into it and maybe take some action.
Now it is referred to AI that does nothing at all. Never buy ANYTHING from eBay where their could be ANY doubt because eBay won't support you. They will support the scammers breaking their OWN policies to make money.

OP1 year agoI agree wholeheartedly that people need to be responsible when buying from eBay.
When eBay lets a seller sell fake Morgan dollars for $17 with nothing saying they are fake, you'd need to be stupid to buy.
However if someone then buys some and relists them as genuine at reasonable prices then legitimate buyers could get caught. If they were following their own damn policy that says fakes or replicas must be marked FAKE or REPLICA there wouldn't be a problem. At least with these.
Their "AI" is too stupid to work this out. It isn't even AI, it's just **bleep** poor programming.

OP1 year agoMy biggest concern now is the apparently AI checking that doesn't know what it should be looking for and just waves them through. That is absolute balls and eBay has washed their hands of ANY attempt to stop criminals using their site.

Especially if they 'don't know' what they are buying but happily folk over $$$$$ no questions asked
Just like all those common as $2 that are listed for obscene amounts of money, the ones there are reports about them everywhere you look that they are common and huge numbers still in circulation
People want to buy them anyway because 'they were on eBay'
Takes minimum effort to know what you (as in the buyer) are buying
No use relying on eBay AI to protect people from listings, people need to take some responsibility for their own free choices

Let's also not forget the number of very obvious scam listings for non existent items which aren't removed when reported these days.
Coins are one of the most "buyer beware" categories on eBay

You could choose to use the MBG within the time limit
You could choose not to support dodgy sellers by buying from them
Buyers buying from dodgy sellers and then not using the tools given to them are the one keeping these sellers in business
eBay do support each and every buyer who use the tools they are given, so don't post nonsense to try to tell people otherwise

OP1 year agoThere is no point having a money back guarantee when you can SEE it is a fake and eBay does nothing to remove them.
