·3 years agoI tried to paint sunrise and sunset at a beach, when I was fifteen or sixteen. I have no particular talent in painting and I had no technique upon which to draw. I simply wanted to capture the beauty of the scene…
Well, the result was swirly and pinkish and not terrible… but our dog Patch (a gorgeous blue heeler) ATE the painting. She was a terrible wallpaper-ripper-offer, too…
Oh well.
The photos of your sunrise are beautiful and they do remind me of the scene I tried to capture…

OP3 years agoI like to paint and draw too, Countess, but not at the beach, At the beach it is difficult because 1. my beach is very popular with a lot of curious people and 2. there is almost always a bit of breeze, even when the weather is gorgeous.
(I had some art shredded by the tiny beak of a certain parrot that lives with me. Once he even had the audacity to poop on it while flying around. 🤣 Now I have to keep my work away from my little Terminator...)

You have not posted in awhile and a couple of us were wondering if you are ok?

OP3 years agoDawn at my beach... 🙂
Unedited photos, only reduced in size.
I think I should really go more often. It is so relaxing to watch sunrise, a real balm for the soul.

They are different European landscapes photographed by Kilian Schönberger and inspired by the Brother Grimm's folktales.

·3 years agoThe earth is glorious and full of wonders. The signs of the chaos of centuries is transmuted into such beauty that I feel as though I want to pack my suitcase immediately.

OP3 years agoSo do I, Countess!
It is really important that we don't let those who don't care or who only care about money destroy this glorious, magical planet.

OP3 years agoThis landscape would have inspired Van Gogh...
arctoph_49
·3 years agoIt really looks like a Van Gogh painting with the bold lines... It's beautiful.

·3 years agoI didn’t read your comment before posting mine, but the the lines and the sense of 20th century painting style struck you as well as it did me - interesting. It’s a great landscape photo.

·3 years agoThose terraces - astonishing! They have a wonderful quality about them, like a modernist painting with great swathes of curving colour.

·3 years agoI'm not much of a photographer and I haven't captured how great the view was from here. It's China and I've tried to blank out the face of a friend.
It was seriously hot that day, 37c and not a blade of shade, heat bouncing off the bricks. I could only take about 30 minutes of climbing upwards in that heat and headed down soon afterwards.
But I remember that view.

·3 years agoI've always loved this photo, it is actually of my son & his wife inside a cave in NZ.
No fancy camera equipment, no fancy lighting effects.
They said it was magical to see, but getting to this cave wouldn't be for everyone (read: me)
They had a personal guide and apparently it took 5-7 hours or some such ridiclous time, abseiling and crawling through narrow sections. No toilet breaks.
I'll show you some of what it takes to get there.

·3 years agoPink lakes are usually pink due to high salinity and the bacteria and algae that LOVE salt. They can lose their colour if the salinity drops due to rainfall or salt harvesting. Usually they will regain their colour during drier periods when the concentration of salt increases.

Apart from the natural glories which are staggeringly wonderful, there is another level when it comes to beautiful architecture that absolutely fits the setting.
