    "Chivalry is sexist and creates a double standard"

    Can you have chivalry and equality at the same time?

    I firmly believe that it is possible to have both equality and chivalry which is why I ( as a now middle aged female) have;

    held open doors for anyone following me, regardless of their gender,

    Offered my seat on the bus/train to pregnant people, the elderly, people with injuries and anyone who looks sick or more knackered than I feel,

    Offered assistance to people who looked like they need it if the type of assistance they need is within my skillset.

    These simple ( I won't say common as they are not) courtesies were a conscious decision in my teens that i have stuck with and seem to be rarer with each passing year.

    When I was a teen/ twentysomething the gender of people who would offer a seat on public transport was fairly even wirh a slight skew towards males offering. Over the last decade 90% of people I have witnessed offer a seat have been female.

    It seems as though women are still indulging in chivalry and older men but not younger men.

    Maybe troll, but off course I agree. The real problem is expectation or even worst PRESSURE to practice it. Kindness is good, the real problem is expectation to be nicer for women THAN men (or at least non hetero or non cisgender should be allowed to be excluded). Maybe I'm lucky I am not interested in girls (or well gay), so I'm free from s**t expectation about being a gentleman to (only) women blahbah.
