It raises more sadness in me as a dear friend and musical colleague (brilliant pianist and he took up the harpsichord as well) died about two weeks ago - very suddenly. He didn’t even know he had a tumour; he was having surgery for something much less deadly and … they found a huge mass and he died during that surgery.

It is a horrible loss; she's one of that generation of actresses and actors who gave British acting a distinguished and compelling face in the 20th century.

·1 year agoThat's very sad. She and her sister Jackie did a TV special a couple of years ago - I think they were driving around Australia to raise awareness of MND or something like that.
It's a truly dreadful disease. Takes your life away before it kills you😢.

·2 years agoI’m another Professor Proton fan. No one but Bob Newhart could have played that role with all of that sense of reluctant mildness and wonderful strangeness. I loved that Will Wheaton became the reboot version, and how that enraged Sheldon… and then Sheldon dream-encountered Professor Proton whose slightly irascible deadpan comments somehow gave him comfort…
Professor Proton asked Sheldon “Do you know what rest in peace means?” … May he truly have that peace now. Farewell, Arthur, farewell, Bob.

OP2 years agoA sad one, but not unexpected given his age.
I first heard of Bob when he released his first album (as comedians do!) in 1966, and I remember laughing so hard at the time, and all the years in between up to his appearances on The Big Bang Theory.
He influenced my humour from a tender age ( there's a giveaway.)

·2 years agoI didn’t tell my mother last night as I knew it would weigh on her and she wouldn’t sleep. She also loved his series and had great fondness for him.
His series on intermittent fasting and high intensity interval training is what led me to steer mum along those lines after her diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, and thus is why she has never needed any medication for it.
She is saddened by the news. We were both hoping he would be found alive, sheltering in a cave.

He was missing on the Greek island of Symi after going for a walk in Wednesday afternoon. He never returned. His body had now been found; he appears to have fallen down a steep slope.

I am so dismayed; I liked Michael Mosely and always watched his specials on intermittent fasting, sleep deprivation, diabetes, etc. His affable personality reached out to viewers, and his intelligent approach to presenting medical information and research attracted many people.
Like many others, I thought of him with respect and appreciation.
It’s awful news. I cannot bear to think about what his wife and the rest of his family must be going through.

This is incredibly saddening. He was a superb conductor and I particularly loved his Mahler, Berlioz, Massenet and Holst. We had the privilege of his conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra up until 2019, which raised the MSO’s profile globally.
This is a loss that is resonating around the world.

·2 years agoSad to read that Jonnie Irwin who used to present for Escape to the Country died on 2nd February.
He had been diagnosed with lung cancer back in 2020 and it had spread to his brain.
A more positive person given his prognosis was amazing.
He leaves behind his wife Jessica and three young boys (Rex aged 6 and twin boys Cormac and Rafa aged 2). He left an amazing number of videos for them so that his children would know who their father was, given they are all very young.

·2 years agoI had the absolute privilege and honour to meet a lady tonight who was 100 years old. What an amazing lady. She must have so many stories to tell, and I would have gladly sat there and listened for hours. She got 7 different letters for her 100th birthday last October. Firstly, from the King, but also other state dignitaries in NSW, and I think the Governor General. She was so proud. She was secretly sad that she didn't get one from Queen Elizabeth, but was still stoked to get one from the king.
A lovely, spritely lady, who still lives at home. Still mostly independent. Her family help her with the housework and shopping, but she still takes care of herself, cooks and gardens.

Known mostly for his role in Starsky and Hutch, plus his song, Don't Give up on us Baby. Aged 80yo.
