very excited and nervous
first drive to adelaide since picking leroy up
leave here around 11am to be at the greyhound track at 1pm its a long drive
i will start a new thread for charlie

It’s obvious how much Leroy meant to you.
May his memory fill the grieving places in your heart with sweetness as time lessens the pain.
Remember that you gave Leroy a wonderful life after the trauma of his past.

its with mush sadness i am letting those who have followed leroys thread he passed away on saturday 5th july 2025 from kidney failure
he did not suffer

·1 year agoI have been the mother of 3 greyhounds and they do make such good pets. Sorry to hear your sad news.

You gave him the best life - you promised him he didn't have to run anymore.
I know you will miss him dearly.
My grandie's greyhound sadly had to be put to sleep - he suddenly attacked and put someone in hospital. They are fine. It was unprovoked. She decided it was the best action.

·2 years agoWhen Leroy had his next checkup (at a different vet, presumably!), you’ll want to discuss this. It sounds odd. What led these young vets to assume stroke rather than pulled muscle etc?

·2 years agoHopefully Leroy is better soon. A stroke seems an odd diagnosis for the symptoms to me but I must admit, I'm not a dog person. I'd keep up the shorter walks and the joint powder ...... and lots of cuddles and spoiling. Don't let Rosie feel left out though - cuddles and spoiling for her too 🤗

OP2 years agohi, about 2 months ago leroy was struggling with a very bad limp on his left rear leg/hip.
i took him to the vet and spent $1000 on tests
i got told they thought he had had a stroke!
of course int sent me into a very dark place, i thought i was going to lose him!
now my local vet is now being run by a couple of very young vets (no life experience)
so here i was on the verge of putting leroy down
as a interim 'try it and see' i was sent home with him and some pills
he improved over the next few days, but still had a couple of days when he limped
but gradually hes almost back to normal.
i dont think he had a stroke, i think he just pulled a hip muscle.
i wont be returning to THAT vets again!
as of today hes on no drugs, all ive done his added some 'joint powder' to his diet, i had foo on it when he was showing signs of pain in his joints, and it has helped a lot i believe
i have been walking him with short walks not his old long walks

·2 years agoOne of my dogs, Star, did have a dog stroke several years ago. She was about 14 at the time.
The symptoms are different to having a limp.
She was holding her head slightly to the side and walking in a wobbly way.
The vet gave us some medication and told us she would probably improve over the next few days and that many dogs can live on and have a perfectly good life for a couple of years after a stroke. And so she did.
She died at age 17.
But you do need to find a vet you can trust. The vet we always went to had no what I would call bedside manner, he was blunt, but you knew where things stood. He would always tell you if it was time to put down a pet. he is retired now and I do miss him.
We took Star to a closer vet at one stage and although I think they know their stuff, I gave up on them. This was after the stroke, for something different.
They did $2000 worth of tests and at no stage actually tackled the problem we had originally gone in for (a tumour on her foot). Nor did they prescribe any medication. Then they wanted to repeat some of the tests.
All vets are not equal, that is for sure.
I now have 2 vet clinics I go to. One is brilliant, but unfortunately not in my suburb.

·2 years agoI’m just relieved that Leroy won’t be using the aquarium … as a dogfish.
Our adorable cat would definitely splash about with an aquarium to hand. He’s fascinated by water and loves to bat a paw about in any water containers - not to mention trying to jump up when a tap is turned on so that he play with the running water,

OP2 years agowhen leroy arrived he felt he should have the lounge and my bed but was quickly trained where his beds were
after all rosie has my bed as her private quarters 24/7

OP2 years agowell, had a bit of aquarium trouble, had/have
the top link bar, its a strip of glass runs from the centre of the top of the tank to the back to stop the tanks sides from bowing became unstuck this allowing a bow to happen
tried regluing it with special glue but that failed several times
so i am now setting up a new identical tank in order to swap the contents of the damaged tank over
then i will repair the damaged tank when empty

took a picture of the temporary clmp i made to keep the damaged tank from bowing too

OP2 years agook, swapped plants and fish into new tank, been running for a few days and all seems ok
emptied and cleaned out the damaged tank
resealed the broken joint and its been clamped up, now i will wait a week or so to be sure the sealant is fully cured before rebuilding the tank and filling it with water
