Changes to our Product safety policy – button/coin batteries
Summary: au_news_team initiated a discussion about changes to the product safety policy regarding button and coin batteries, but the content of their post contains no detailed information.
From 7 September 2024, new requirements for the sale of button/coin batteries and products containing these batteries on eBay will go live.
Button/coin batteries are easily swallowed and can cause serious health issues or death.
What’s changing
Sellers must include a warning that button/coin batteries are hazardous. This requirement will apply when listing:
- Standalone button/coin batteries in any category
- Any item containing button/coin batteries within the Toys, Hobbies or Baby > Toys categories
This is the exact wording that must be used in the listing:
WARNING: Button/coin batteries can cause severe injuries or even death when swallowed. Keep batteries out of reach of children. If you suspect a child has swallowed or inserted a button/coin battery, seek medical attention immediately.
We also recommend including this warning if you sell items containing button/coin batteries within any other category.
Next steps
If you sell button/coin batteries, or any type of item containing button/coin batteries, please update your listings as soon as possible.
