Size Standardisation for Apparel & Footwear is now live
Summary: The discussion announced the implementation of a new standardized sizing system for Apparel & Footwear in Australia, aimed at simplifying size searches and filters for buyers. This change updates listings with clear size matches and places those with unclear or unsupported sizes on hold until updated. It advises sellers to review and update their listings, using standardized sizes and including brand-specific size details in the title and description. Sellers will be notified via email if listings are hidden, and they can use the Issue Resolution Centre for assistance. The discussion emphasizes the importance of providing both standardized and original size details to assist buyers.
Our new standardised sizing for Apparel & Footwear is now live in Australia, helping buyers find the right items more easily when they search and filter by size.
Previously, the same size could be entered in different ways, such as “Medium”, “M” or “Size M”. Standardising these values helps your listings match the size filters buyers use.
What this means for your listings
We’ve automatically updated listings where there was a clear size match, such as “Medium” to “M”.
Listings with a missing, unclear or unsupported size value may now be placed On Hold until the size is updated.
If this happens, it only affects the listing and doesn’t mean there’s an issue with your account.
What you need to do
Review your active listings and update any listings with a missing or unsupported size.
Select the exact brand or manufacturer size when it’s available
Choose the closest suitable standardised size if your exact size isn’t available
Add the exact brand size to your listing title and description when you’ve selected the closest match
For example, if you’re listing a Ted Baker Size 3 and that size isn’t available, select the closest suitable standardised size and clearly include “Ted Baker Size 3” in the title and description. You can also add measurements to help buyers understand the fit.
This helps your listing appear in the right size filters while giving buyers clear information about the item’s exact size.
Can’t find an exact size?
Some brand-specific, niche or infrequently used sizes may not have an exact supported equivalent.
Choose the supported size that best represents your item, then add the original or brand-specific size, fit notes and measurements in your title, description or optional item specifics.
For example, a brand may label an item “One Size”, even though it fits more like an XS/S. Choose the supported size that best represents the item, then add “Tagged One Size; fits like XS/S” in your title or description.
What if my listing has more than one size?
For listings with multiple size variations, use the appropriate standardised size for each variation. You can include additional sizing information elsewhere in the listing where needed.
For existing Apparel and Footwear listings covered by this update, eBay checks the required Size field. If that field contains a supported size, information in additional fields such as EU Size or UK Size won’t affect the size check or cause your listing to be hidden for this reason.
How do I know which listings are affected?
You’ll be notified by email if a listing is hidden from buyers.
You can also visit the Issue Resolution Centre in Seller Hub to view any outstanding issues, see which listings are affected and follow the steps to resolve them.
Good ’Til Cancelled listings remain hidden from search until you select a supported size.
How should I list different types of Fashion items?
Choose the supported size that best represents your item, then add any additional fit, label-size, regional-size or measurement details buyers may need.
Shirts and tops: Select the closest supported size and note if the item runs large, has a slim fit or is oversized.
Jeans and pants: Use the supported waist size where available and add the inseam measurement.
Dresses: Choose the closest supported dress size and add bust, waist and length measurements where fit may vary.
Jackets and coats: Select the closest supported size and describe the fit, such as tailored, relaxed or oversized.
Shoes: Select the appropriate supported regional size, such as US, UK or EU. Add the size shown on the shoe where helpful.
Bras: Use the supported band-and-cup size where available. Add the label or brand-specific size when needed.
Children’s clothing: Select the closest supported age or size and add age, height or weight guidance where relevant.
Will my original or tagged size still matter?
Yes. The standardised size helps buyers find and compare your item using eBay’s shopping filters. You can still include the original, tagged or manufacturer-specific size elsewhere in your listing where it provides useful additional context.
