Smoke & Mirrors - Payments Terms of Use
Summary: bluesbdoull explained eBay's updated payment process, likening it to a digital wallet where funds initially go to an 'eBay balance' rather than directly to a bank account. sandypebbles and gutterpunkz05 remarked on preferring information from members or eBay directly rather than from AI. *casey* questioned the changes, clarifying that the new rules mainly apply to 'Free Sellers' and mentioned a discussion thread for more details on the updated payment terms. The conversation highlights varying perspectives on eBay's payment system and the sources of information preferred by users.
Thanks AI for explaining what a 10 year will understand not sugar coated marketing speak
Before
When you sold something on eBay:
Someone bought your item.
eBay took any fees.
The money went straight to your bank account.
With eBay Balance
Now it's more like this:
Someone buys your item.
eBay puts the money into your eBay piggy bank called an eBay balance. [pages.ebay.com.au]
You can then:
Buy things on eBay using that money. [pages.ebay.com.au]
Pay for eBay selling costs with that money. [pages.ebay.com.au]
Move the money to your bank account whenever you want (as long as there aren't any holds on the funds). [pages.ebay.com.au]
Example
You sell a toy for $100.
eBay puts the money into your eBay balance. [pages.ebay.com.au]
You now have $100 sitting in your eBay piggy bank.
You can:
Spend $30 on something else on eBay, leaving $70.
Or send the whole $100 to your bank account. [pages.ebay.com.au]
What it means for you
For your eBay business, the biggest change is:
Your sales money won't necessarily go straight to your bank first. It lands in your eBay balance, and then you decide whether to spend it on eBay or withdraw it to your bank. [pages.ebay.com.au]
Think of it like PayPal used to work years ago: money arrives in an online wallet first, then you can spend it there or transfer it to your bank. (That's just an analogy, not something eBay states on the page.)
For someone like you who sells on eBay regularly, it could be handy because postage labels, promoted listings, or purchases on eBay can come straight from your eBay balance instead of your bank account. [pages.ebay.com.au]

Have the rules changed since yesterday ?
@bluesbdoull
Before
When you sold something on eBay:
1.) Someone bought your item.
2) eBay took any fees.
3)The money went straight to your bank account .......
but NOT automatically for Free Selling
Free Sellers have to request a payout
"For your eBay business, the biggest change is:
Your sales money won't necessarily go straight to your bank first. It lands in your eBay balance, and then you decide whether to spend it on eBay or withdraw it to your bank"
The new rules indicate this only applies to Free Selling at this stage.
Happy to be corrected.
You're not Free Selling blusbdoull so the new rules won't apply to you
Have a look at the thread - Buying and Selling
