eBay's lack of customer service
Summary: pikachus-shadow-market shared their frustration with eBay's customer service, unable to receive relevant answers due to a perceived language barrier and scripted responses. davewil1964 advised seeking help from the community instead, noting that eBay staff often respond with scripts triggered by keywords. pikachus-shadow-market was also advised on creating a new listing for a custom deal rather than combining existing ones. sandypebbles reiterated the inefficiency of dealing with scripted responses and encouraged using the platform to ask questions directly for quicker solutions. The discussion highlighted community support as a better alternative to eBay's customer service for specific inquiries.
I'm newish to eBay (been at it a few months), I had a few issues/questions I raised with eBay live chat, they were extremely unhelpful, it seemed like there was a MASSIVE language barrier, they replied in scripts that weren't applicable to my questions, I've asked questions 5 times like "how do I complain about your unprofessional conduct" to which I get a generic script like "I understand your frustration, what were you needing help with today", showing they aren't listening to what I'm saying. I've spent 1 1/2+ hours, got transferred 6+ times, no one trying to assist. It's almost as bad as Meta/FB Marketplace staff.

·3 weeks agoYes, eBay staff read from scripts as they almost always have, and unless you speak the language for the country you are contacting, there will be some kind of barrier
But rather than complain to other members about eBay, you could have asked your question here and had an answer by now
Or at least been pointed in the right direct to get your issues addressed
If you would like help, just ask
If you would rather waste your time, keep trying with eBay staff

OP3 weeks agoOk thanks a lot, that's absolutely wild, but after nearly 2 1/2 hours that makes perfect sense, so my bidding is restored, that was my first issue.
Secondly, I've been wanting to set up a custom deal for someone, I went through help, it said I could use pre existing listings, the problem with that is I'd need 3 listings in one, then have to combine shipping. Is it better to use the 3 listings and can I combine the shipping, rather than go to the effort of having to make a new listing for one sale? I've already had a customer ask me to create this sale so hopefully should be solid.

·3 weeks agoYou are far better off asking your questions here.
If you manage to get an eBay minion to answer a specific question they will be reading from a script and are triggered by keywords, not your actual question.
Asking them how to complain about their responses, as you have found, will trigger such a response.
It is pointless if you want answers to questions about buying or selling on eBay. If you don't want such answers, it is also pointless.

OP3 weeks agoThanks a lot, you've made the interaction not make sense, but helped me avoid continual unnecessary interactions. I've had a buyer asking for me to make a custom deal, I noticed I could combine multiple existing listings to do it, but I feel like a new listing would be easiest on my end, as I may actually sell the 3 listings combined in the future anyways, any advice on it?
