"No services available" when trying to purchase postage label
Summary: li-442373, an Australian seller, is experiencing difficulties purchasing a postage label for shipping to the US, as eBay shows "No services available." sandypebbles and lezned-toycollector inform them that free sellers cannot use eBay labels for international shipments, especially to the US. They suggest excluding US sales or switching to a Pro plan. li-442373 is advised to stick to selling locally to avoid potential scams. Further discussions highlight the risks of international transactions for inexperienced sellers and suggest local platforms as an alternative to eBay.
I'm an Australian seller trying to ship an order to the US. As this is my first ever order, I'm trying to follow eBays instructional guides closely. They specify that I'll need to purchase a postage label to attach to the package, but when I try to do this I run into a problem. After entering the size and weight, it says "No services available" and the 'Buy Postage Label' button is greyed out. The customer support chat bot was no help since it kept telling me to check the size and weight, which I'd already done. Is this an error, or have I done something wrong?

·3 weeks ago · EditedIt is not possible to purchase an eBay label for shipments to the U.S.. The option was removed quite some time ago.
The short of it is... if you're free selling, you need to exclude U.S. sales. You can also cancel your current sale using the reason "Issue with buyer's address". This way you won't cop a defect for the cancellation.
If you still wish to ship to the U.S., you will need to have a Pro subscription - simples.

OP3 weeks agoAnd I'm guessing it's not possible via other sources like just taking it to the local post office because of the tracking requirements?

·3 weeks agoIf you are on free selling, you are obligated to use eBay labels
Information given in the link I posted
If you wish to not only violate policy by just taking it to the post office, and also risk being scammed by posting overseas, go right ahead

OP3 weeks agoAs I said in my post, this is the first item I've ever sold on the platform so I'm not intimately familiar with what I need to do. I don't wish to violate policies or get scammed, but I've gotten a lot of conflicting advice from eBays help guides and automated support which made it seem as if postage labels were a good choice but not mandatory.
So to be clear, the only option I have is to cancel the order? Also, would shipping from Australia to other countries excluding the US work fine?

"but I've gotten a lot of conflicting advice from eBays help guides and automated support which made it seem as if postage labels were a good choice but not mandatory"
The best advice is generally given here on the forum from experienced sellers and buyers NOT from the bot or eBay customer Help who read from a script.
When Free Selling, the only exceptions to mandatory eBay labels are:
Items sold for less than $20, or over $5,000
Items that may be sent in an envelope. These include: trading cards, comics, magazines, coins and banknotes, jewellery, CDs/DVDs/video games, patches, postcards, greeting cards, seeds, stamps, stickers and decals
Items where a label isn't available, such as heavy or bulky items
Orders where the buyer selected local pick up
With your Pandora and your Halo Blocks ($228.60), all an overseas scammer has to do is file an 'item not as described" case with eBay and you'll lose your items and your money.
Even if you changed to a Pro Starter plan where you pay final value fees and choose your own postage method, I'd still strongly advise you to post to Australia only.

OP3 weeks agoThat's very helpful, thank you. In that case, I think it's probably easier for me to just stick to another local platform for selling.

·3 weeks agoAnd just how do you suppose selling on a different platform will eliminate the likelihood of being scammed on an international transaction?
Surely you understand that the same scammers target certain items across ALL platforms, right?
The best advice you can get is to cancel the current sale, and only sell high priced/high risk items domestically.

·3 weeks agoYou will still be scammed, it is not an eBay exclusive thing
It is sellers who are inexperienced selling overseas, especially when higher priced items are involved
Other members can only say it so many times
sandypebbles
·3 weeks agoYou cannot use a label as a free seller to post to the USA
You also need to be aware of the risks of inexperienced sellers being scammed when posting overseas
And make sure you are fully signed up to Managed Payments with both your bank and ID verified
