Yes, exactly, padi.

I have less trust in companies / businesses / organisations /sellers where the feedback reeks of AI slop, than I have in companies / businesses / organisations /sellers where the feedback is sparser but has the human touch. When I don’t trust, I don’t buy.

If eBay continues to use a feedback system, automatic bot-generated feedback is inherently self-contradictory in essence.

Either keep the feedback system and put up with some buyers not leaving feedback, or do away with it — at least, that’s my view.

If eBay are truly desperate for more feedback to be left, they could incentivise it. So much feedback given = a $10 eBay voucher, or something of the sort. One would no doubt see some buyers so eager to receive said vouchers they they’d increase their buying to meet the T&Cs. 

The day I use AI to write for me is the day that polar bears will “water-ski” on liquid plasma while using alligators as surfboards in the fires of hell…

Priceless.  So good, did 'Ai' write it - I hope not.

Back on track, the automatic feedback feature has been around for a decade on a Chinese platform.  If buyer hasn't given feedback after 30 days, the system automatically gives the seller +1 point with "The user thought the product was excellent and gave it a positive review."  Under the heading:

"512 buyers gave positive feedback by default in the past six months"

The default system feedback is always listed after all the human written feedback and provides a numerical score to future buyers that the seller is legitimate and has many sales under their belt.

We are lucky to get 1 in 10 buyers leaving feedback and happy to see this rolled out.

I see a wild outback town here.

On a dusty road is a double-arrower signpost pointing northeast and northwest. To the NE carefully repainted lettering declares “City of Top Sellers, pop. millions, 🔮 km” (where🔮 is a magic number ).

In the distance one can hazily see a sprawling city. A standard guidebook to the area indicates that this used to be a wild-west type of city running amok with cattle rustlers and robber gangs, but that the Big AI (local sheriff) has cleaned things up… It’s apparently an incredibly law-abiding place now where shoppers can trust the local authority to the nth degree, everything is legit, and cheerful sellers are doing a roaring trade.

By contrast, the lopsided signage pointing NW is half-obliterated and badly faded by the sun. It urges all those who go that way to beware: “Shanty Spam Town, pop. diminishing, distance 15,000 li (里) / a stone’s throw in Just In Time measure”.

By screwing up one’s eyes, there’s quite a lot of dust and a disheartened trail of buyers who shuffle off to write bad reviews in the local guidebook, only to complain that no one is reading their carefully crafted words.

For a moment, the two arrows on the signpost seem to merge, and the two destinations appear to move together, one over the other, shimmering in the heat. What is real? Is it magic… or is it some bot-raddled deception? And why does the sheriff refuse to take complaints of cheating seriously while grinning with such a fixed smile…?

Automated feedback is one of eBay’s most offensive and misleading measures.

  No. Buyers see feedback ranked by relevance, not by date, so meaningful buyer comments stay prominent.

   

  Only you, as the seller, see feedback sorted by recency.

   

  Automated feedback won’t hide the feedback that matters most to buyers.

  For any new buyers reading this and unless something's changing , use the drop down box on a seller's feedback page to change "Most Relevant" to " Most Recent" or click on negative or neutral feedback in the Feedback ratings box.

   

  Don't  be fooled by  pages of eBay automated feedback, pushing negative or neutral out of sight initially.

Up until now on the AU site, only very  low feedback sellers have received a few ebay  'automated' feedback.

Last year eBay started giving automated feedback for all transactions on other sites.

And now I see in the seller news, it's starting in Australia for all transactions.

"Your effort should never go unnoticed and we’ve made sure it won’t. Starting in March, we’ll provide automated feedback for eligible orders, giving you more opportunities to increase your feedback score.

As has happened on other sites, the scammers will be very happy !

eBay have been leaving automated feedback with zero buyer input for a long time now
