Buyer requested refund and has damaged the item...

Summary: The discussion addresses a situation where a buyer has requested a refund for an item they have damaged. stellac* initiated the conversation but did not provide details in their post. Two other participants, twyngwyn and davewil1964, responded, but their contributions contain no specific content. The issue regarding the refund request for the damaged item remains without further input or resolution in the discussion.

    Hi

I was wondering if anybody has had this issue as I'm a bit anxious about it.  I recently sold a 9ct gold bracelet. The buyer had already paid for the purchase ($1200) before requesting photos of the item to check for damage and also the hallmarks which I provided. The buyer viewed the bracelet and thanked me for the pics. The bracelet was delivered and the buyer has now requested a refund claiming the bracelet is broken, damaged and there are no hallmarks, it has been glued etc etc. In one pic they sent the safety chain end links appear to have been pried open. In another pic the safety chain end links appear in tact with just the heart clasp, safety chain and the end rings of the bracelet... no bracelet like it's been taken off. The 2nd picture was not sent to ebay, it was via message.  I am worried not only will I have to pay for the return plus what I paid to post plus insurance, but I am going to receive back a bracelet that is now completely damaged.

    Choose your sites.

I would never sell jewellery on eBay, so I haven't had your issue.

I would also consider multiple red flags if a buyer asked for pics post-purchase.

If the buyer has opened a formal 'Item Not Described' claim, accept it, provide a shipping label and assess the item on return. If not, ignore them until such event occurs.

Assuming you have kept the original pics.

Discrepancies won't even displace an eyebrow with eBay, but if the 'buyer' is Australian there should be legal remedies. You, after all, know who they claim to be and where they claim to live.
