Buyer won't respond after winning dispute and getting refund.
Summary: A participant shares their frustration about a buyer who has stopped responding after winning a dispute and receiving a refund. eskays15 and *casey* engage with the discussion but do not provide a resolution. Other participants including domino-710, davewil1964, and gutterpunkz05 also join the conversation, but it's left unresolved about how to address the situation with the unresponsive buyer.
The buyer claimed the goods were discoloured, even though they wouldn't take them out of the bag, and lodged a dispute saying the goods didn't match the description. I appealed and lost, and ebay took the refund from my bank account plus a dispute processing fee.
Now the buyer won't return any of my messages and requests for confirmation that the goods are being returned to me. What do I do now?

·1 year agoYou seem to have sold only one thing in the past 6 months.
' Discoloured ' thing not even showing in sold items. ??

·1 year agoAs others have said, you made the wrong move in appealing because in this particular case, how could you prove to ebay that the goods were NOT discoloured? Ebay cannot see them and would side with a buyer in this sort of circumstance. We can't tell either.
Your best bet would have been to issue a return label immediately and accept the return.
It sounds to me that you went into an appeal first, you lost and ebay automatically awarded the buyer the refund. They probably did add that the buyer could keep the goods because at that stage, you had not issued a return label?
If I have the sequence right, you may as well accept you've lost the goods and the money. This buyer does not like you, you challenged their claim and now (in their eyes) you are harrassing them over a case ebay has said is closed and an item ebay has told them they can keep, they need to do nothing more about etc
They have absolutely no intention of sending it back so yes, as someone else said, at least cancel the postage label and get your money back on that. And don't waste any more time messaging the buyer, they will just see it as annoying.

·1 year agoUnfortunately I think the buyer is correct that they now do not have to return the item and the dispute/transaction is now closed (as others have mentioned).
Your options were-
1 Agree to the dispute This forces the buyer to return the item to get their payment back. You will get your fees back from eBay
2 Challenge the dispute If you lose you risk losing your item. You won't get your eBay fees back. You will soon have a defect in your seller ratings.
Most sellers have learned from experience that they never win a dispute & therefore just agree to the return no matter how unreasonable.
You might as well cancel the return label & retrieve your costs for that as the buyer sounds like they won't be returning the item.

"Now the buyer won't return any of my messages and requests for confirmation that the goods are being returned to me"
It's a hard lesson to learn if this is the first time it's happened to you. Was it valuable ?
However, as much as eBay may have told the buyer to keep the item or that the buyer's under no obligation to return it,
I like to think that some buyers would be honest enough to respond to your messages and return the item if you paid the
return postage , even if the dispute is closed.

·1 year agoInteresting - still asking how the OP knew the buyer did not take the item out of the ' bag '.
If it were the satchel - how would the buyer even know ' discolouration ' . ??
If there is an email stating the item was never removed from the ' bag ' - the seller has a case.
Item number would help - pics of item.

·1 year agoAs you did not resolve or win the dispute, the buyer is under no obligation to return the item or respond to you, as the dispute is now closed. When deciding to dispute an INAD case, you need to weigh up your chances of winning against the cost of losing.

·1 year agoSounds like you didn't use the correct channels. I doubt the item will be returned. eBay will have told them to keep it.
For future reference, you can't win a Not as Described dispute. Either refund and let the buyer keep the item, or provide a tracked postage label if you want the item back (you will still have to refund).

What kind of bag. ??

·1 year agoDid you supply a return label ?
eBay usually waits until the item's shown as tracked back to you, then even waiting a few days for you to inspect, before refunding the buyer

OP1 year agoHi, thanks for the response.
Yes, I provided the return label, but the buyer has now replied saying he refuses to return the item, and claims that ebay has told him he doesn't have to. When I told him I found that unlikely, he replied with "Want to make a bet?"

·1 year agoOnce the ebay dispute is finalized, without the item being returned, it then becomes a civil matter between you and the buyer.

·1 year agoThis may not work, but you have nothing to lose. Try and appeal the decision. Explain to eBay that you provided a return postage label and since the buyer had been refunded is now refusing to return the item. Use the eBay help chat and request a call back. EBay might pay you out of their pockets. I’ve had the paya couple of times for disputes. Worth a try 🙂

·1 year agoThat sucks,
Sounds like a scamer buyer. It's crazy how ebay just takes the word of a buyer for anything. It is so easy to make up a story as a buyer and scam sellers and ebay just believes anything a buyer says. Sellers get shafted all the time it seems.
