Can I have my sales payouts paid into someone else's bank account?
Summary: In a discussion titled "Can I have my sales payouts paid into someone else's bank account?", several participants engaged without providing any specific content or details about the discussion topic. The conversation contains multiple interactions, including responses and exchanges between various author IDs, but it lacks substantive information about the question posed. Due to the absence of content in all posts, there are no clear conclusions or insights provided about the ability to redirect sales payouts to another person's bank account.
I'd like to send the proceeds of my eBay sales into an account in someone else's name (I owe them money.. doing this will help pay it back a little quicker and will remove the temptation to spend it myself!!!!) Is this possible and if so, how do I do it? When I try to add a new account in the payouts section, the name is greyed out and I can't seem to change it. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

OP2 years agoEDIT: I've taken all of your responses on board and thank you for them. My question was misguided but genuine. FYI I don't sell enough or make enough money to do anything dodgy with taxes! Have messaged the moderator and asked if they can remove this thread. Sorry everyone.

·2 years agoThe eBay name has to match the name on the bank account.
The bank account has to be verified either through login credentials or microdeposits.
The eBayer also must prove that they are who they say they are - ergo, photo ID has to match the eBay name which has to match the bank account name.
eBay will not disburse funds into a bank account that isn’t the eBay seller’s account. Since it’s so easy for the seller to just transfer the funds from their bank account to someone else’s account when they receive the payments, I am left feeling that there’s something problematic here.
Furthermore, by linking someone else’s bank account (even were that possible), the seller would effectively be giving permission for eBay to take funds from that other person’s account in the event of a dispute.
The impression given - in my opinion - is that of wishing to avoid a paper trail / clear electronic trail of funds. OP, you may be perfectly legitimate; the scenario suggested, however, is just not gelling with me.

OP2 years agoGood lord, your impression could not be more wrong! My question was genuine. Wish I hadn't posted it now!

·2 years agoYes you can. Easily done with the Australian Banking system. You couldnt in most other countries.
Not sure about the comment on money laundering/tax fraud, in reality if the recipient declared it (if required) whats the fraud,

eBay won't allow it, as you well know.
Have you any reason for posting misinformation?

·2 years agoEbay can't prevent it. There is a major flaw in the Australian banking system.

·2 years agoEbay can prevent it, what happens after the OP receives funds to their verified account is a different matter.
Ebay will only pay to the account holders verified bank account, if that is unable to be completed then the funds go to ASIC
gutterpunkz05
·2 years agoJust to add, it is actually illegal for ebay to pay anyone, other than the account holder, and then only to their verified bank account. I am sure the relevant authorities wont care about a supposed flaw in the banking system.

·2 years agoTrue, but the verification process between all australian banks misses one important part, making it possible for me to attach anothers account, all I need from them is the microdeposit details, which in this case the friend would happily agree to.
Obviously by the 3 PM's I received overnight many are aware of it. In fact a little research and logical thinking and you will understand. How easy it is.
Hopefully over the next year or 2 the flaw will be legislated against. The estimate is that some 30 to 80% of fraudulent transactions in Australia could be stopped, as it has in other countries.
gutterpunkz05
·2 years agoAnd there is your fraud. Highly illegal and would attract the attention of authorities that you do not want to get involved with.

·2 years agoDon't you still have to provide/upload a bank document with name, BSB & ACC, in your name (matching ebay) before a micro deposit is made
davewil1964
·2 years agoTrue.
If the OP changes their account details and has proof of ID for the recipient available to them. That is not one of the flaws.

OP2 years agoI have no idea what you mean, as I genuinely did NOT know. I guess I should have given how long I've been selling on eBay! I just thought it might be a way of paying back the person I owe money to. Go the Demons.

·8 months agodo you know if this still works? Is it okay to add bank details that don’t match the eBay account name?
twyngwyn
·8 months agoNo….must be exact
countessalmirena
·8 months agoUnder Managed Payments, there’s no “still works”. It does not work. It would be illegal. It’s fraudulent. No.
(I won’t comment on illegal getarounds, were there any such things.)
twyngwyn
·2 years agosorry, no....it would be seen as money laundering/tax fraud etc.....they are 'clamping down'
domino-710
·2 years agoNO...............................
sandypebbles
·2 years agoGiven the rules of Managed Payments, I would say that would be nigh on impossible
Can you not just pay it yourself either into their bank account or PayPal account as soon as your funds clear ?
countessalmirena
·2 years agoNo.
You cannot.
The name on the bank account must match the name on your eBay account. Also, the name on your photo ID (to verify your ID) must match the name on your eBay account.
See this eBay help page: Registering as a seller
