Ebay claims to be giving us lower AusPost postage rates (what a joke)
Summary: A participant expressed frustration over eBay's increased shipping label costs, which rose from $9 to between $17 and $21, questioning whether this change benefits eBay financially. Another participant noted that this discussion predates eBay's newer selling options and emphasized ensuring accurate postage costs by using flat rate postage and correct package dimensions.
The truth is that all of my postage rates have gone up. I used to be able to use "calculated Postage" and for a parcel up to 500 grams went anywhere in Australia at the flat rate of $14.10 with signature on delivery. I could print the label and pay this amount. Now the same label, costs $17.43-$21.86 depending on location and it seems the parcel now goes by box size and destination not weight. From here all other sizes and weight parcels follow this same formula. Will Ebay ever wake up to how counter productive this is going to be? I am now listing as "fixed Price" and charging $14.10 which is what I pay over the counter at the Post Office. So now, I am not saving time for the Auspost employee by printing the label, and my time is taken up going to the Post Office instead of doing more listings. (previously I have many other people drop parcels into the post office for me) I can see sales dropping if Sellers are printing these over-inflated priced labels and charging the customers this much. How to get this message across to Ebay?? It just annoys me to constantly see the message that we can now access cheaper Auspost rates, when nothing is further from the truth. Any suggestions on how to get the message across??

·5 days agoI thought I was going mad. All of a sudden eBay is dictating the cost of the shipping label. In just a few days labels that cost me $9 are now 17 to 21. More profit to eBay perhaps? Because the cost of the shipping is deducted from what they will pay you. Did online chat thinking their system must have a glitch. I am put off selling on eBay.

·5 days ago · EditedThis thread predates eBay's new 'free' selling option. As such this thread contains information that doesn't align with current policies.
Generally speaking, if you use flat rate postage or enter accurate dimensions you will get accurate postage costs.
Your postage prices seem to be well in excess of AP rates for the claimed postage service being used, so you have ample profit built in.
I would also be concerned if I bought any of your 9 items and you put them in an Extra Small satchel.

·6 months agoIs this the same issue as https://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Selling/Two-days-ago-the-package-details-section-changed-to-multiple/td-p/2641265, where there are multiple choice postage options instead of being able to enter parcel dimensions?

·6 months agoThis makes no sense to me. It makes no difference to the AP staff whether you print an eBay label or a MyPost Business label. It takes them the exact same amount of time to scan the label, regardless of where it originated.
Why do you think you can't still get others to drop off your parcels? There's absolutely no reason for you to visit the PO personally - unless, of course you actually choose to do so.

·6 months agoI assume they're going to the post office and paying on the spot for the postage, which is what I would do if I didn't use eBay labels. Can you explain what you mean by My post Business label?
lezned-toycollector
·6 months agoSure.
1. Open your MyPost Business account
2. Import your eBay orders
3. Edit your draft order
4. Pay for shipping
5. Print label

OP6 months agoIt is quicker for staff to just scan a label than weigh the parcel, print and attach a label and then take my money, print a receipt and give me change. Is that not obvious? As for others dropping off the parcels, I would have to give them the correct money for multiple parcels, then make sure they get the right label for each one, e.g standard or express, signature on delivery, wait while each parcel is weighed and label attached, then pay, make sure to get separate receipts . I feel this is too much of an imposition on others. Maybe that is just me, I don't like to impose on others unneccessarily and also waste their time. Previously, anyone I knew who was just passing the Post Office, did not mind just dropping parcels off for me. So Quick, no hassles. Maybe that gives you some sort of understanding which I thought would be obvious to everyone in the first place.
I want to know how to get the message accross to Ebay that the labels are now costing much more and not cheaper as they keep touting, any other comments are not helpful.

·6 months agoI hate to say it, but you're flogging a dead horse, so to speak. Many, many of us have contacted ebay about this and to no avail. Just a few days ago they told me that it is an Aus Post problem and they were waiting for AP to fix it.
It is NOT an Ap problem; it is an ebay problem, but they don't care; easier to buck pass. They will only care if it starts to affect their bottom line. And don't be surprised if we're not in for an even worse scenario, given that ebay have sent 'selected' members a survey that floats the idea that sellers must buy postage labels through ebay:
I’m completing it now; here’s one of the questions

·6 months agoDid you click option 4.
For business sellers they may find it harder to enforce but for private sellers it would be hard to prove you will be worse off if forced to use their labels.

·6 months agoAs Dave said on another thread, the only way around it would be to increase all prices to include shipping, then offer free postage and just buy ordinary postage at the PO.
That would work for parcels under 1kg, but becomes a nightmare once cubing & zones come into play.

·6 months agoI use myport labels and get a better discount then the ebay label price. I use calculated postage for 90% of my items except letters or free post items this way it passes on the discount that varies depending on buyer location.
I now set my item price higher as I know the postage the buyer pays will cover the cost and I don't try and make extra profit on the postage side as it varied on the delivery zone for what I paid.
From a buyer perspective a lower postage price will be more attractive.

If ebay makes it compulsory to use their labels you won't be able to do that.
lezned-toycollector
·6 months agoNow that makes even less sense.
As I said, it takes AP staff no longer to scan a MyPost Business generated label than it does to scan an eBay generated label.
What money would you be giving the AP staff on parcel lodgement? Unless you're purchasing something in-store, no money should be changing hands at the PO. So there's no need to give any money to those who drop off your parcels - unless you choose to do so if course.
Why on Earth would you be having other people attach your postage labels to your parcels... and then superving to make sure they do it correctly 😲 Surely you would attach the labels yourself.
Why anyone would choose to add unnecessary steps to their shipping process, and thereby increase their processing time along with the likelihood of human error, is beyond me.
I don't understand why you think changing the origin of your label means you can't still do things in exactly the same fashion as always... you know, create the label, pay for the label, print the label, attach the label, place the parcel in mailing box or lodge it over the counter.
While it's entirely your right to complete your shipping procedure in whichever manner you choose, there's really no need to complicate the process.

OP4 months agoI cannot understand why you cannot comprehend what I am saying. I am purchasing a label for my parcel in the Post Office , so therefore have to pay for it at the Post Office. (They will not send my parcel otherwise) If I print a label at home then it can cost over $7 more for the label for the same parcel. What you are suggesting is that I give my parcels to the Post Office but not give them any money for the Postage Label, and expect them to send my parcels off with a Label attached all for free??
My only other option is to charge the buyer the exorbitant Postage price by generating an eBay label, print and attach the label at home and then drop into the post office with label attached. I have chosen to not rip the customer off in this way, when the cheaper option is to give the lady at the Post Office money to print and attach a label to my parcel which then posts at the flat rate e.g approx $7+ less than the eBay generated label. If you still cannot understand, then maybe someone else will explain it to you. I cannot be any clearer than this and can only wonder if English is your second language and that is why you are not comprehending.
lezned-toycollector
·4 months agoI do comprehend exactly what your saying. It is not I who doesn't understand. You're telling us that you're deliberately trying to make things as difficult for yourself as you possibly can.
The only bit that I don't understand is why you are still under the misapprehension that AP charge you over $7 more for the label if you print it. As has already been explained to you repeatedly, that is most definitely NOT the case at all.
Perhaps you should read my last post again... in fact, you should probably read all of my posts on this thread again. You have to pay for your MyPost Business label before you can print it. AP isn't delivering for free, rather, you're pre-paying for the service - and for the exact same price (or perhaps even cheaper) than if you lodged and paid in-store. There's really no reason why you still can't have others drop off your parcels - other than trying to further complicate your sutuation.
There's really no point in trying to belittle me because you are unwilling to even consider the factual advice you've been given - especially when it contains the perfect solution to an issue which is entirely of your own creation.

It may be another "memory" problem as it wasn't long before you posted this thread that you explained very clearly that you don't have and don't want a My Post Business account

As you are already aware, there's nothing at all wrong with my memory.
Nowhere in this thread do they say they don't want to create the free account. In fact, they actually enquired about it.
