I sold an item value $3000AUD and they took $430AUD off from me... wow ridiculous. Selling an item costs me over $400. "Listing is free" and then after item sold out, here you go ridiculous hidden fees that you didn't expect. Which plaform in the world would take that much? Greedy.
At least final value fee should be shown on the page when listing item.
No more ebay for me.

Due to the age of this thread, it has been closed to further replies. Please feel free to start a new thread HERE if you wish to continue to discuss this topic.
Thank you for understanding.

·2 years agoYep, it is. I understand the charge for selling an item, but where do they get off also taking a cut in postage or courier which is billed on top of a sale. When I sell a product in my business, I charge for the product which includes my profit, and I then charge at cost the postage- I don’t make anything on that, some charge a packing fee but again not on the postage.
Sad that EBay need to be greedy, and yes it’s our choice to use them but never again for me.
davewil1964
·2 years agoThere are numberless threads about this, a lot more recent than this one. And the charge has been in effect for close to 10 years. Why did you wait that long to fruitlessly complain?
It is unlikely anybody reading this (who are unlikely to be eBay) cares whether you continue selling here.
davewil1964
·2 years agoYou have feedback for 4 sales, 1 in the last year. I'd be more concerned about getting paid.
You don't seem to understand current selling policies, so have you signed up to Managed Payments?

·3 years agoPlease! My "moment" may have had validity, and it's 20 BUX (from the kingdom of Bhavish-Under-Xolah) converted to AUD.

·3 years agoI had a moment... while I wondered for what sort of currency BUX stood.
In this world of global purchasing and international currency, it could have been something along those lines...
sandypebbles
·3 years agoI've never heard of 'BUX' is that way before (certainly not in a currency the post office here would use)
Only 'bucks' I know is dollars and the noise a chicken makes

·3 years agoOP quotes $20 sales, but I don't see any for $20....so how do they quote incorrect postage and fees?
gutterpunkz05
·3 years agoNew seller with absolutely no idea what they are doing, have obviously not made any attempt to learn about selling on ebay.
Selling high value items, that are commonly known to be very attractive to online scammers, is not very wize for the inexperienced.
Selling Fees And all selling policies, including those applicable to new sellers, are all readily available. Nothing is hidden.
At least you have sensibly, removed your unsold listings.
Edit: Just to add, where do you get the idea that you are going to be paid in 2 days. That is not going to happen.

·3 years agoI sell vinyl for 20 each and they take 8$ for each that I sell also charge 13.25 for a postage label and the post office told me me if I send it myself it's 5 bux wow
gutterpunkz05
·3 years agoStandard fees on a $20.00 sale is $2.98
How you choose to process your postage is entirely up to you, but
Minimal charge for parcel post is $9.70
So the figures you quote would seem to be BS.
There is always the possibility that you are such a good AP customer that you are entitled to significant discounts, and likewise that your ebay sales metrics mean you incur exceptional penalty fees.
Edit
Also the possibility 5BUX converts to $9.70AU

·3 years agoI actually pictured vinyl tiles - thought they were a bit expensive as I just bought some to redo cupboards - $2.55 each - Bunnings.
Free pick up. LOLOL

·3 years agoYour 'post office' is most certainly telling you porkies
I am sure one of your buyers would be delighted to get a smashed record and underpaid postage notice though
Not sure how you can expect anyone here to actually believe you can really send a record in the appropriate packaging and actual real postage cost for '5 bucks' in 2023
As for the fees, no idea why yours are so much higher than the normal fee
Good story though

·3 years agoListing IS free
Selling is not
two totally different things
The fees are not hidden
All the information is right there
And was agreed to by you when you made the choice to list
I do hope you fully signed up to Managed Payments before you listed
and are aware of the hold there will be on your funds
But since you did not even so much as look at the bare basics of selling, I doubt it
eBay don't read here and have no clue if you use the site again or not
I am surprised you were even allowed to list such an expensive item, especially when you failed to honour your last sale
We can only hope for you that your buyer does not take advantage of your lack of experience
I do mean that, because many buyers do do exactly that to inexperienced sellers with $$$ items
jjee2160
OP3 years agoSure, listing and selling is totally different things, but what is the point of free listing if you gonna eventually pay fee? You LIST the item to SELL
Sure the information is right there 'somewhere', and yes I am inexperienced seller as I don't sell item often, so ebay should consider for people like me who has lack experience, by at least showing final fees, international fees, etc on listing pages, not just "FREE LISTING". No generousity there. Do you think $400AUD fee for selling is reasonable? I am pretty sure I am not the only one here who had this issue.
I did put tracking number so I assume I get my payment within 2 days.
After all it's my fault selling on ebay. I want people to know about this and I want to somewhat relieve my resentment
so I posted here.
No more ebay for me.
jellybirddesigns
·3 years agoWhy resentment? YOU are the one who hasn't even bothered with the basics, let alone the cost of selling. There has always been a fee based on the final selling price of an item and it has been around 13.4% for a very, very long time, based on the combination of item and postage price together.
Are you fully signed up and ID verified with a bank account? Otherwise you'll NEVER see your money. Since you are an intermittent/new seller, you definitely won't be getting your money in 2 days. You'll be lucky to get the money in 3-4 weeks. The Managed Payment system has been in place for over 2 years now.
And hopefully this transaction doesn't go south and the buyer open a dispute. There are many, many scammers out there just waiting for an opportunity to fleece an inexperienced buyers flogging high priced merchandise.
You did send with Signature on Delivery right? This is a requirement for anything over $750.
I'm seriously astonished by your naivety on this site. Selling a high priced item should involve a serious level of research as to costs and what to do when and if things go wrong.
jjee2160
OP3 years agoI did not use ebay over the past few years.. I learnt the lesson.
I've changed my banking account details today. With a red banner it says it will be delayed for up to 48 hours. I don't know if that would verify.
and also I did send with Signature on delivery.
The buyer is in UK and he told me to put item value around $180 when filling the form so he doesn't have to pay taxes/customs.
Would it be matter..?
rickandjanesvinyls
·3 years agoYep I'll never use ebay again for selling it's a full rip off

·3 years agoTry selling handmade items in a gallery or craft shop, lucky if the fees are only 35%.

padi*0409
·3 years agoWhy ? Are you another one that couldn't be bothered reading up on the fees they charge for selling ?
sandypebbles
·3 years agoSo don't use them. Easy enough
They are not going to see your tanty, eBay do not read here no matter how loud you yell
You are aware of the fees before you sell
You are aware of the hold on funds as a new seller
You are aware you listed and sold the same phone twice
So those things aside, what are you yelling about?
sugar249
·3 years agoHang on, but you are still using Ebay it cant be that bad.
