eBay telling buyers amount of minimum offers

Summary: The discussion centered around eBay's practice of informing buyers about the minimum offer amounts. collectablecuriostogo initiated the conversation, which received reactions and further thoughts from other participants, including sandypebbles, lezned-toycollector, and *casey*. The dialogue indicated mixed opinions on how this practice affects both buyers and sellers on the platform.

Question:  Why is eBay now telling buyers what our offer limits are when they clearly state that buyers won't know?

eBay states on it's page Adding best offer... Automatic responses... " If you set up automatic responses in your listing, we can accept or decline a Best Offer for you, based on the price limits you select. Buyers won't know your limits,".... (bold and italics added)

BUT yesterday a buyer contacted me about a message received from eBay that shows the eBay is now telling buyers what the minimum amount is.  WHY?

So out of curiosity, was  $51  the exact  figure of your minimum amount on that item ... or different ?

That's exactly the way I read your post but thought I'd double check.  Thanks, some sellers will appreciate the heads up.

They're not telling anyone what your minimum acceptable offer amount is... the pic in the OP is a generic message shown to buyers when they make an offer. Read the message.

The figure ($51 in this case) is based off either the eBay recommended selling price which is calculated by averaging sale prices of similar items... or a set percentage below the seller's listing price.

This message pops up when eBay AI considers the amount entered to be a lowball offer. They're just trying to get the buyer to offer more, ergo increasing the chance of a sale with a higher price, and essentially creating more profit for eBay through the higher FVF.

Nowhere at all does that message mention anything about what the seller's offer amounts are - minimum or otherwise.

Edit: There's no need to change your offer settings, and warning other sellers that eBay is trying to get them higher offer amounts is really not necessary.

You would need to ask eBay if you want an eBay answer

Thanks - I did ask eBay and was given the reason it was because of a reject offer. I now will be changing my limits, and let this be a warning to other users.
