Ebay want's ALL MY PERSONAL details!!!

I am extremely unhappy about the information eBay wants from me to receive payments.
If eBay gets hacked, the hacker gets:

    • My name
    • My address
    • My drivers licence
    • My date of birth
    • My bank account details!

And eBay keep this - even after verifying my account!!!
This is too high risk for me!

Why can't they simply transfer to my credit card if you don't want to pay into my paypal account?

I'll bet all those Chinese companies on eBay won't be providing those details!!! What will they do instead? Why do they get away with it, and not me?

If there are no alternatives, I will strongly need to consider not using eBay in future.

OFF EBAY: ITS THE ONLY COURSE OF ACTION.

The following organisations have been hacked in the last few years: outlook, gmail, experian credit reference agency, Telecoms companies.

    and yes:

    eBay 2014 145,000,000 web hacked

Thats right 150 Million people screwed over by ebay security systems.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_data_breaches

Enough is enough this is a joke fix your  systems and DO NOT KEEP OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION AFTER VERIFICATION.

Agree - having had personal information stolen from Medibank Private I'm not prepared to give out any more personal information online.

That's fine - as long as you never want to sell on ebay again.

I understand it is a worry. Of course it is. Our personal details are everywhere though-with banks, medicare, licenses. Any time you buy anything online, you have to give name and address and you have to pay in some way (I always choose paypal if posible, but even paypal could potentially get hacked).

All you can do is try to minimise your risk. When we were selling, for instance, we had a separate bank account which was for ebay sales and expenses only. If someone had stolen the information from ebay back then, they would not have learnt anything about our private  bank accounts.

When you signed up to eBay initially you had to provide all that information, except the driver licence and dob.

you had to provide your name, address, phone number, and bank details so what’s the difference.

So that is a good point! Why then if we already have signed in to purchasing on Ebay would they need to have either a drivers license or passport id when you sell? They are happy for you to buy without this, but not sell. Besides, it would be discriminating towards those who either don't have a drivers license or a passport - which is not a legal requirement for selling, is it?

    Yes it is

Have you signed up for Managed Payments?

It does'nt sound like it really, by your post

So how do you plan to be paid for the things you have listed for sale?

I'm guessing Granny will be back when they don't get their money.

It would make more sense if ebay stopped people from listing if they are not signed up for Managed Payments, but they don't.

That is what I don't understand

There should be a Mars sized red flashing 'siren' with sound effects if you try to list without signing up first

(ok, not really, but something that tells you that you cannot proceed)

    It's been three years already

Well past the "I don't know" expiry date

As sandy says, I hope you have sorted Managed Payments or you will be waiting a long time for the funds from the item you sold today.

Did you read t & c for selling?  A lot of time has passed since you last sold.  Many things change
