eBay won’t assist me even though they have acknowledged a system fault. What can I do

A scammer listed Opti-men 240 tablets for $45. I purchased two on 5 July 2025. This seller/scammer then went on to Amazon and purchased 1x 90 count Opti-men and had it shipped directly to me from the UK..

I took photos and requested a return which was approved. But I asked eBay to step in because I wanted compensation for the inconvenience, plus that I would have to buy a postage bag to return the item. The ebay “help” agent advised that I had to contact the seller to request compensation. While not explicitly stating to do so, I only had a few days to post the item back so I cancelled the return request to then contact the seller and ask for additional funds to compensate. In cancelling the return request, I selected “other” and entered “ordered 2x 240 tablet Opti-men and received 1x 90 tablet  OptiC-men. This seller was methodical this was no mistake. This seller should be banned from eBay. It is also clear from the Aus post packaging weight that this is not a buyer mix-up”.

I was expected to go out of my way and full of hassle to print a return label, go to the post office during work hours, wait god knows how long and buy a postage bag, all at my expense.

This means that in dealing with this scammer on eBay’s platform, who will likely remain on the platform under this name or another, I am out of pocket and time, and with no product.

Unfortunately, and advised of a system issue/constraint, because I cancelled the return request, eBays “system” closed my case off. eBay have advised that they can no longer assist and if the seller chooses not to respond or refund, it’s my own tough luck.

Further, eBay agents refused to give me a complaint ticket, or an email to lodge a complaint through, and advised that I will likely not receive any further response from them regarding this.

Essentially eBay are assisting their sellers is fraud and stealing from consumers..

Essentially you made poor choices by

Buying from a seller whose feedback was warning enough to stay away

Buying 'medication' from some random on eBay

Closing the case, thereby telling eBay you were happy with whatever outcome you had arrived at with the seller

You are not entitled to anything which is not covered by the MBG

And no, the buyer does not pay return postage if what was listed is not what was received

Don't buy from dodgy sellers, do your own thing and then demand 'compensation' for those choices

No stealing involved had you used the tools you were given

Or better yet, not supported a dodgy seller in the first place

'It was listed on eBay, so I had to buy it' does not cut it

You are not entitled to compensation, above the purchase price and postage you have paid.

All assistance via ebay ceased, the moment you closed the case.

Well first of all, do you realise that all these pills and potions you're buying from random sellers on eBay, could actually kill you ?

All the warning signs were there.

The seller has appalling feedback and  Amazon is mentioned in their feedback.

You went about everything the wrong way.

If you'd  opened and followed through with an 'item not as described' dispute through eBay's Money Back Guarantee, the seller  would have had to supply you with  a return label with tracked postage.

You cancelled the 'return'  so you have no further options with eBay.

If you paid with Paypal, you could try opening a claim with them.

Or you could try a chargeback through your bank.

Indeed. They say the seller should be banned and yet over and over choose to support dodgy sellers

I didn’t ask for health advise… and while I acknowledge I made mistakes, the point of my post is that I should be able to cancel a return and resubmit if the cancellation was due to agent guidance or wanting to alter the submission..

My point was simply if a buyer cancels a return request, say cause of an error, there should be an option to resubmit. This is a system error that should be fixed. And while I made mistakes, the seller has 98% feedback.. we don’t all have endless time to sit there critically analyzing everyone…

It is not a system error, you wanted more than you were entitled to via the ebay return process , you then closed the case in an attempt to deal direct with seller
